At GDC, Valve's Michael Booth gave a demonstration of Left 4 Dead for the event goers. During his presentation he also gave a few interesting details about just how well the game is selling.
Since its release, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 Million units in the retail market. This figure is a combination of both Xbox 360 and PC sales, but again, only for retail stores. Booth gave no mention as to how many sales came from Steam.
Given Valve's policy of not releasing sales figures of games sold through Steam, we may never know just how many total units of Left 4 Dead have been sold. However, 2.5 Million just in retail sales is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
