    Let's Go Achievement Farming

Rock, Paper, Shotgun writer, Alec Meer put on his brave face and headed into a Team Fortress 2 server set up with the sole purpose of earning Pyro achievements. The result? I believe his words will speak volumes.
Once I finally managed to sneak to a safe-ish corner, I couldn’t help but join the fray. There’d been no explanation as to how this server worked, and the only communication between players involved the word ‘retard’. So I presumed mega-death was the done thing here - certainly, that steady stream of disorientated spawnees were fish in a barrel, a Pyro’s wet dream. Stood next to a supply cupboard, with my health and ammo infinitely replenished, I clocked up kill after kill after kill - forever twisting my TF2 stats. In TF2 proper I play a Heavy almost all the time, but my permanent record is now dominated by Pyro points. They’re just numbers, but they make me oddly sad - it’s as though someone’s stamped LIAR on my Steam page.
Meer continues on to say that he'll "never do it again." He states that it made him wish Valve never introduced unlocks in the first place, and that the game feels "grubbier and sadder for this mass obsession with statistics."

People aren't obsessed with stats, they just want to use the new weapons

I have the same feeling. I saw some sort of achievement unlocking server in the browser when I loaded it up the other day and thought "wow, how incredibly sad".

For a long time when I was young I liked to cheat at games. Theme Hospital especially. My brother would say "What's the point in cheating, you're not really playing the game at all," and I never really understood what he meant back then. I was young enough to have fun without realising that by cheating such, you remove much of the satisfaction that comes by playing the game the ways it's meant to be played.

These days I can't cheat unless I feel the game is cheating me. Like with specific *utter crap* mods for Half-Life 2 that I just want to get through to see if it ever gets any better. Some people need to learn how to balance properly before releasing mods.

So yeah, sad people can do it if they want. I don't even try to get any of the achievements. If I get them I get them, and I'm certainly not going to play with Pyro just to get them, as I find it a poor experience of TF2.

It's annoying though, I find I'm having to play as a medic, because all those once dedicated medics are pyrowhoring-it-up all of a sudden. I do so enjoy Heavy, but with all the medics suddenly pyros, it's a nuisance. While I normally agree with most that Valve do, I find they're just encouraging people to all suddenly pick the same class at once, and destroying the gameplay.

I've been playing as HW these past few days, mostly. I typically have Pyro as one of my top 3/4 classes that I like to play but with this weekend and the update out I just feel like I'll be some "bandwagon jumping" player.

That's not to say I haven't played as a Pyro at all, but it hasn't been as much as I'd have liked to. I've also put aside my Demo playing for a bit to try out the HW thanks to the near endless rush of Pyros that are tossed at me, just to rack up the easy points.

I don't really like to cheat in games. I might if I beat the game, but never (or hardly ever) before. I don't even like using walkthroughs unless I am completely stuck.

As for the pyro farming, I will never get those achievement legit or not because I suck at TF2.

:c BUT THAT IS OKAY RIGHT GUYS

Okay I admit. I haven't done any server specific farming, that kind of stuff bothers me, but I didn't do it in the course of game play.

Me and a few friends achieved quite a few of them just sitting around in a server together helping each other out. Didn't take all that long, and I didn't have to totally screw my stats to get it.

Same here, well at least as pyro anyway. The only thing im remotely skilled at in TF2 is whacking sentries. When the engy achievements are released, ill be in my element.

Also, report is not quote :<
