I've played all GTA games (not as an addict, just as a player of enjoyable games!) and not once have I gone round killing every prostitute or innocent bystander. In fact, I try and play the game in a cool way, not drawing attention to myself and seeing how far I can get without drawing the attention of the cops. I'm committing crimes in game to do well, not because of "lawl look the blood comes out of their ears".
The fact is that pretty much nothing happens in game when you run rampage, apart from the cops coming. And once you've had the cops after you, it never really changes....meaning there's no incentive to go rampaging through the game being "evil".
The fact is that people will always do that sort of thing in games: TKing in CS:S, killing the hostages etc. But they do it once or twice and then give up because there's no feedback to their actions. They get bored of it. Anyway, I would hope that by the time the average GTA player is allowed to play the game, they should have had all the moral guidance from their parents, schools and other adults that they should need. I doubt very much that GTA would turn the average adult (and don't forget, literally ONLY ADULTS should be playing GTA) into a madman. And if the game is getting into the hands of kids, then that's an entirely different problem altogether and one which most players here wouldn't want to side with.
