Can someone briefly in a paragraph explain to me what TECHNICALLY this mod does? The author on the about section of the official site does a good job philosophically explaining its purpose, but what it does to CS:S I still want to know.
Picture 1.6. Got that? Picture 1.6 but using the Source engine, taking out a number of the weapons that the "pro scene" apparently never uses (yeah, right), picture weapon models straight out of CS: Source, textures from Source (and I believe 1.6 as well), and really crappy map aesthetics, and you have CSP. The graphics are so scaled back, you are essentially playing 1.6. So, play 1.6 on its own then. At least that actually works.

I'm just commenting on how pleased you seem in light of that, though.
Of course. People complained about CSS, so they wanted to make this. But it's 1.6 on Source maps that look little better than their 1.6 versions. They had everything laid out for them, and the screwed it up. Everything they were complaining about and trying to accomplish has already been done with 1.6 ... years ago.

The graphics imo are way better then 1.6. Plus, a lot of people just won't play 1.6, so a source mod that has the 1.6 gameplay would attract those players.

Also adding the HP and Points/Kills section are things I really like that Valve would never put in.

This mod is the cs:s everyone expected with additions we've always wanted, but Valve never put in, or will never put in. If done right, this mod might put Valve in a tight spot concerning new versions of their cs.

Whatever people get used to is what they are going to defend. When 1.6 came out everyone was bitching about how 1.x was better and how this new shit is nerfed, but guess what: Now people are saying 1.6 is godlike and how Source is a nub, nerfed game. Which any real CS player knows is not true. Source is smoother, faster, better. I played CS on the old engine for years, but I play on Source now because the improvements to gameplay are obvious.

no... I still think 1.5 was the best. It's just that we can't really say "source is nub compared to 1.5" that would just confuse the source players.

I'm just amazed that a video game mod caused such a clusterfuck in the game community. Makes me scared to think what the next generation of Counter-Strike will do to people...

So cspromod was made to get 1.6 gameplay into big competitions and TV deals?

              Hahahaha. Good fuckin luck.

Well first of all, if you played it, you must have noticed that CSP is not 1.6 on source engine! CSP, at least the aimed final version, may be thought more of CSS with improved gameplay and smaller models, simpler maps. Best times of CS, imo, were when it was developed by two amateur students out of any profit expectation. This is why i'm very optimistic about the future of this mod. It wil react what the community wants about the game play and what they need very rapidly.

The way I see it, nobody will ever top CS1.6 (or even 1.5 for that matter).

Source doesn't cut it for me.

I understand the people working on this (promod), they want to increase 1.6's lifetime by modding it into source. I don't think they'll be successful, even though I wish them luck!

I don't really understand the bashing on promod... it's only a mod afterall, just let it be. If it gets spotlight, so much the better.

And who the hell goes comparing tfc to cs? TFC is a funny mod; you play it for a bit of fun and for the randomness... and also to get a break from the other mods. But at a competitive level, it has absolutely nothing on cs. Actually, even at a very basic level its fun doesn't last as much as 1.6's fun. That may be debatable, but just take a look at cs history and compare it to tfc. The number of players simply agrees with me.

In short, cs needs continuity and promod is a very good try at that.

Source was valve's take on 1.6's continuity; a failure for some, but, undeniably, still very successful, as source's player database grows, faster than 1.6.

I predict source will ultimately crush promod

And players like me will never touch cs again (unless for some 1.6 in old time's name).

                  LONG LIVE 1.6!

why make a mod like this? just a waste of time.

If you like 1.6 then go play it... its not going anywhere.

If you like CS:Source then play that.

Why should the developers at Valve waste their time unpaid to make a 1.6 with better graphics? I wouldn't of bought CS Source if it was going to be the exact same game with slightly better graphics..

There are better games than CS 1.6, theres more out there. Alot of people hold onto 1.6 because they see professional matches and believe that one day if they practise enough they might make a living out of it. I doubt it
