I honestly don't care either way. When I played CS1.0 I had no idea what bunny hopping was. By the time 1.3 rolled around I was a bunny-hopping deagle whore and generally a hellish experience for anyone newer facing me, and I was outraged by 1.4 treating Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist teams alike as if they were doughnut-eating pigs who couldn't handle the thought of jumping more than twice in a row without stopping for a breather.
That said, I adjusted and now I enjoy the experience in a different way than before. That's one way for a game developer to address the subject.
I also used to be an avid fan of the Tribes series, and if you've had any taste of what that game is like, you know that "skiing" is a huge part of the gameplay. Basically it's taking advantage of sliding down the slopes and then jetpacking to develop huge amounts of forward speed via the in-game gravity. None of the in-game demos from the original Tribes even conceived of this possibility, as it was designed to be a mostly "run and jetpack a little" experience.
End result? The crazed spacebar-mashing hoppers eventually made scripts for the game so everyone could use it without developing carpal tunnel syndrome, and instead of patching the game to destroy this ability, Dynamix embraced what the community enjoyed and it came as standard functionality straight out of the box in Tribes II. One could argue that dealing with "heavies" (the slow, heavily armored and armed class) screaming through the air at incredible rates of speed was "ruining the game" for everyone else and wasn't how it was intended to be... but ultimately it made for more frantic and exciting experience.
I think you'd get a big outcry if they put Counter-Strike's jumping nerf into TF2, but simply keeping move speeds constant isn't going to piss off the majority of the community who won't even notice it.Comment

Well then, now at least I know when I was screaming about where that spy came from, I was legitimetly concerned =O Well, that eliminates my theory that I hallucinate at 5AM in the morning...or does it? =o
Oh and Zips, without you, CSN would be dead. Thanks for keeping the <3 alive =DComment

You know, in game development in general I find "fix for the fix for a fix" pretty interesting.
It seems as we've progressed to this kind of development. Remember back in the old 80's PC games when patches were nonexistant? Game developers did not believe that games need to be further worked on when they are released to the public, as an error is basically an "error". It should not have existed, so the game philosophy was to intensively scan every single bit of data in the game to see if it creates an error.
Now, look where we are. Not only are patches and updates so frequent, but there are essentially patches to fix patches that patch a game. This is as bad as "beta patches".
Remember I'm not specifically attacking Valve for this, but the game industry in general. Some would argue that this is helpless since how 3D graphics are evolving and the room for error keeps multiplying. In my opinion, this means that the mind of the developer needs to evolve to, and have even a stronger work ethic to weed out these issues.Comment
