    Steam News update - July 27, 2007

Is everyone enjoying their new Steam Community BETA? What? It's not out yet? Lies and blasphemy! I suppose there's still a few more days left in July, so get those fingers crossed! Though, there was that 7MB "maintenance" update the other day. Anyway, on with the show.
This week, the Day of Defeat: Source team released the CAMP2 Pack, brought to you by the Community Assembled Map Project (CAMP). This pack includes some of the top custom DoD maps available today (including a brand new one), representing a nice cross-section of play styles and themes. And to celebrate, we’ve lowered the price of Day of Defeat: Source to just $9.95.

We're headed to QuakeCon 2007 next week. If you're one of the 7,000+ lucky attendees, be sure to stop by booth 221 to say hi and play a few rounds of Left 4 Dead. Valve and the Turtle Rock Studios design team will be on hand to answer questions about the game. We're giving away some cool schwag, too. Next week, we'll fill you in our visit to the show.
That's it? I suppose the DoD: Source map pack is quite interesting, though I haven't played that game in quite some time. Hey, what ever happened to adding HDR to CS: Source, and new maps, and the possible last player models?

Wow the maps are great. I'm loving it. Again Valve is slow as ever to do anything.

Hey, what ever happened to adding HDR to CS: Source, and new maps, and the possible last player models?
New games in development happened. Don't expect them to pimp cs when they have two new multiplayer games coming, this is not the same company that was working on cs for four years. Look here, the last update that affected gameplay was in last december, and even that was a small one compared to what they did a few months earlier.

IMO the real support cycle of cs:s is over now it's just a 'back catalog' game like 1.6 that will only get security and engine fixes that are coming with tf2 and l4d updates.
Erik Johnson: When we think of Left 4 Dead, we think about it like it's the next Counter-Strike.
As for the map pack, why can't they put it on steam if it's high quality work and exploit tested? Again, it's not the same company that was planning to host mods and stuff for free on steam a few years ago. Let's hope their new web pages will bring back some of their lost community spirit.

They added it to Dust, Nuke, and Militia... Seems rather odd that they'd add it to a few and not the rest, no?

And Train. Not that anyone plays Train.

I'm not sure but Inferno might have it, too.

I just played on Inferno, I didn't see any HDR at work. I might also have been wrong about Militia having it.
