We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Steam hasn't updated since June 27th. Norton updated July 7th, the day that these troubles began.
Symantec AV had been humming along happily on this machine with no problems until I ran Steam last night for the first time in weeks; it updated the platform and BANG! the problem appeared.
Don't you just hate it when the facts destroy all counter-arguments?
Just go get avast (www.avast.com), free and works 1000 times better than anything, or AVG or STOP Sign, what ever your pick is. Norton has done this in the past with other games and products, they really need to learn some real programing and anti-virus techniiques from these other companies :)
Enjoy.
BTW if you use Norton your a Terrorist and you support terrorist actions in Counter-Strike!
ALT+F4, to my knowledge, the problem is in Norton blocking the playing of CS:S and other steam games.
As you admitted, you haven't been playing CS:S or Steam for weeks. Therefore, the problem was there all along, it was just not important to you since you felt no need to play Steam or CS:S.
To my understanding anyway.
Norton always 'ran fine' for me. However, uninstalling it was horrible (the website actually instructed me to MANUALLY remove EVERY mention of it from the registry via regedit). It's easier to reformat the hard drive than it is to uninstall Norton software. And it sucked in terms of detection. Other virus software is simply better, on all counts. Norton is the worst in all ways except advertising.
