All this talk about Insurgency has got me interested, think I'm going to have to install steam to give it a whirl.

it's unfortunate that the INS devs did not consider any sort of tk protection, because it really is killing the mod. between the rampant, no-consequence teamkilling and the server crashing exploit, INS is becoming a griefer's paradise. i hope they get a hotfix out asap, before too many people get turned off permanently.Comment

I do know that you guys are working on fixing things up. I made mention of the upcoming patch near the end of the article, so we'll hopefully see that soon.
Again, we can only make it better and more bug free with good constructive feedback and a couple of things we read in here will be used to improve things. Thank you for that, and again... have faith we are working around the clock for this new patch.

Well, to be fair:
Only thing I don’t agree on is where you claim that the developers think much of themselfs. Actually we’re very down to earth and we are very surprised and thrilled with the amount of people enjoying and playing Insurgency at this moment.
We never claimed to be more popular than CS, actually let me clear that up for good. During an irc interview we had the most stupid question if we would beat CS in popularity. Offcouse we all know that’s impossible. A member of the dev team directly answered that question with a sarcastic “YES (but as we all know sarcasme is not always that clear on the internet...).
Thanks for the usefull comments.
Hope to see you on a server sometime in the near future! :)I wrote..
But I just wasn't too thrilled at how some of the interview questions were handled.
I really think the high anticipation for this mod got to a few of them, and I know that a few members do not speak for everyone.
It's quite difficult to determine that the person answering the CS question wasn't serious.
Also, there was this comment (self-censored for use on this site):@[INS]Minotaur0 THERE YOU GO F**KERS
And this one:
@[INS]Minotaur0 http://www.fileplanet.com/178666/170000...lient-Beta-v1+dual22deuce A lot of people consider RO the most realistic FPS out there. How would you say INS will compare to RO in this regard?
Unless he's calling Ins "runny and off" I'm not exactly sure what the need was for a jab at RO at such an early state in this mod's life when it has a ways to go.
@[INS]2d-chris it's like comparing eggs from two different farms
@[INS]2d-chris one is runny and off, the other is perfect :)
It's just stuff like that, and as said, it was only from a few and I know that they do not speak for the entire team. But comments like the above do come off as being a little full of themselves or unaware of the setting they're in and what their purpose is in being there in the first place. Yes, it is entirely possible the comments were made in jest (besides the HERE YOU GO F**KERS one, that one was just not needed), but at that time during a serious Q&A session, I didn't see a place for them for a beta release.Comment

I'm going to tell you something that may seem ironic but I'm bolding and italicizing it for your benefit:
The gaming community has no freaking clue what they are talking about and what they want.
There should be a large space between the community and the developers. In fact, very rarely should a developer even really talk to someone in the community.
In theory, yes, you would think that there are only benefits from developers talking directly to the community, but also in theory communism works. Let the PR guy do all the talking for you, it's his job, and honestly it's just more professional.
PR guys exist for the sole purpose of preserving the reputation of the company and/or promoting their ideas and concepts. Now if you want to have the next Counter-Strike, a tough feat, you're going to have to look as professional as possible. Even then, it's best that your community is on their knees to you, not you the other way around. It's best that as an organization you look like your self-sufficient and that you don't need us to make your game but are open to suggestions.
I realize to some or most of your developers that this is just a hobby and I'm taking this a little too seriously, but this is what I think needs to be accomplished before you even talk about making the next Counter-Strike. That means your developers have to look and act like this is their job and that they can get fired at any time for the wrong move.
Now if you've read and understood everything I've said, you won't reply to this.Comment

While I do agree with alot of the things in this article and trust me I like INS Mod alot. Its not as polished as many people wanted, however, we have got to remember that CS and DoD were up to the same level of polish that INS is at now. Yes its buggys and there are things wrong with it, however, with enough new content and alot of patches, Insurgency can beat alot of other mods and maybe reatail games out there.
It just needs more polishing, more work and more tweaking and then it will be amazing. CSS at this moment was nothing like it was when it was first release, sometimes, people expect too much.Comment

nice article, but I don't think you really addressed the core issue. The gameplay sucks and feels shitty.

try playing competitive cs, ns or dystopia. Teamwork is not the issue, it's an unfun, unskilled FPS game.
Falling flat on its face? Haaa!! Played Insurgency for 3 days straight and I haven't have this much fun in a multiplayer game in years!!! The people who complain about it are probably CS kiddies that can't handle teamwork and extreme realism.
and oh btw retard, THIS GAME ISN'T CLOSE TO REAL. Try firing weapons or doing some real combat before you open your fucking mouth jackass.Comment

OK, let me preface this response with the fact that * I have yet to go back to the game to check out the points we've been debating and I'll address that at the end of my comments. Let me also stress that I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just old and cranky.Zips wrote..
Which may in fact be the case. The only instance I can recall running out was sprinting with a SAW and, as you say, climbing steps.
It's unlimited so far as I've encountered. You only stop sprinting when faced with steps or you run into something. I ran around in circles happily sprinting continuously.Zips wrote..
In the interest of being even half-right I got out my AR-15 to check out the sight picture and, again, you may be right. I can still see plenty to the sides and down diagonally left and right of the sight line. Keeping in mind that the rear sight of the A1 and A2 Colt is atop the carry handle and not nestled down on the receiver this may be why. And, again, *.
The sights are still far too close to the perspective. I know where you should be concentrating, but every aspect of the sights will not be in focus if you're trying to view the sights at the tip of your gun.Zips wrote..
Could well be. By the time Source removed double-tasking commands (right mouse and/or C to crouch) I'd mostly given up on CS anyway and forgotten the way it worked. Plus, *.
You're thinking of going prone. That is a toggle, crouching isn't.Zips wrote..
I agree that invisible walls are much more prominent and irritating in INS. (Wow -- he agrees!)
Also, yes, I know there are plenty of unreachable graphical areas in CS, but those areas are usually places you should theoretically not be able to jump to or reach under normal gameplay conditions. These steps are on the ground level and are almost directly across from other steps that you CAN walk up.
But now let me address the *s -- WHY I have yet to go back to the game to check out the points we've been debating.
There are games I just can't wait to play -- entire reasons for just turning on the machine in the first place -- and games I play only grudgingly since they're like, already installed and all.
I haven't been back to Insurgency not because it's buggy or ugly or not CS or BF2, but because it's just not fun. I can't even pinpoint why, unless it's the "reality" features that make it so oblique.
I cannot stress the importance of offline AI to me. It's not that I mind dying online but until I get a better sense of what the frak is going on and what I'm expected to be doing as a team member I'd rather not be the retard that everyone is pissed at for losing some dopey objective.
Still, I have confidence that INS will get nothing but better and I look forward to a time when I can't wait to play it again.Comment

ummm, lets see how many players there are after the initial hype has gone down.
wouldn't be the first mod to have players in the thousands, and then SURPRISINGLY barely anyone is playing after a month or two.
Fucking moron..
btw, killing people in ins is really easy once you camp like any 13 year old cs awp whore.Comment
