CS: Source Pure Mode Has Arrived

What's that? No more worrying about people using junk models or transparent textures? If the following is any indication, that may very well be the case! Alfred Reynolds, via the HLDS mailing list, has just announced another major update to the BETA currently running for the Source engine. Keep in mind, this is both for Server admins and clients. Read on for the details.
We have done another update to the Source Engine Dedicated server beta. This one is a BIG update, in particular we have added a pure server mode (can you say whoop?).

To get the beta run the hldsupdatetool with "-beta srcds0407". To test the pure server functionality you also need to run the beta client, you do this by adding "-beta srcds0407" to your Steam command line.

This version also fixed several reported bugs when using "sv_master_legacy_mode 0", please try it again if you found bugs with

    this setting previously.
Here's the full list of changes in this BETA.
    • In-game server browser only shows human players in the player counts column. Bots column now shows number of bots instead of a "some bots" / "no bots" icon.

    • Fixed servers with bots reporting incorrect number of bots when sv_master_legacy_mode was set to 0.

    • Fixed user names reported as "unconnected" when > 32k players had connected to the server.

    • Expanded the disconnect reason dialog.

    • Make sv_contact FCVAR_NOTIFY

    • Added a "cl_language" cvar that seeds itself from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Language.

    • Added IServerGameClients::NetworkIDValidated

    • Made maximum rate 1000Kb/s.
Awesome. Read on, if you dare![break="more details on the pure mode"]
Server can now force the client to match the server's files. If the server sets sv_pure to 1, it'll load pure_server_whitelist.txt from the game path, which specifies sets of files that are allowed to come from Steam, allowed to come from disk, and require CRC checks.

When the client connects to a server and receives the whitelist, it reloads resources that may be "dirty" (like the client loaded the file off disk but the server only allows the file to come from Steam).

The server can set sv_pure_trace to show which files clients are requesting CRCs for. By default, the server will just show a warning when a client has a mismatched file. If they set sv_pure_kick_clients to 1, then the server will kick clients that have mismatching files.

Those are some impressive updates there.

Enhanced reporting for bots on servers? Nice.

    Pure mode? Very nice.

A filter to hide bot servers entirely would be nice. Fuck you weirdos who like to fill your server with bots.

I hate to sound negative on such a great update but come on how fucking long do we have to wait for a half time crash fix honestly.

That is a competitive fix, valve does not give a fuck about anyone who plays games they make competitively.

"Fixed directx error when buying a p228 while standing next to a hostage on cs_italy"

Those are the type of "fixes" valve likes to do.

Snow, keep in mind that Counter-Strike Source is unofficially abandoned. Updates to that game will only come from updates to the source engine itself. This is the attitude that Valve has been giving off for a long time now.

That said, these are some good updates. I, for one, hope that when you select the 'hide empty' filter, it'll hide servers with no HUMAN players.

At least this is a step in the right direction :)

I too would love to see a filter that would get rid of bot infested servers on the list. Period.

Now on to the half-time crash...defuse bug..etc bug..

The thread in the steam forums says "Half time bug fix is in the works, it's not in the beta but it'll be out soon. (Valve time)"

It's in this thread not that I know the source referenced to guarantee any authenticity.
