Xfire Debates The Future of Counter-Strike

UPDATE: A transcript of the main debate has now been posted here.

Today at 7:00 PM EST, a veritable who's who (scroll down) of the gaming community will be debating a topic dear to this sites heart: Yes, the mystery of the missing pizza, will finally be revealed. Also I believe the very Future of Counter-Strike is up for discussion... where have I seen that before?

The topical discussion will cover burning issues including:
    • Professional player migration from CS:1.6 to CS:Source

    • Combating against cheaters

    • The Steam digital delivery system

    • CS television as a spectator sport

    • Contribution of custom mods to the game
Hopefully there's something there to send you into an infernal rage, so load up your Xfire tonight and join the debate.

There are a lot of people pushing for VALVe to do things to improve the future and life of CS.

          My case and point.

I was going to link to the CAL Forum post of it, but I think you have to be registered to view threads.

So wait, when is this going to take place? Was the news item posted at the exact moment it started? I'm confused. When I look at it on the main page, it says just after noon was when it was posted, but when I look at it on the comments page, it says it was posted at 7...

I'll be upset if I missed it. -.- Looks like I did.

No, I posted it 7 hours before the event, odd, but the comment "time" for the news post, is different from the actual time listed on the main page.

In summary, yeah, you missed it.

If Valve listened to the mainstream and took the majority of those idiotic suggestions at the steampowered forums on board, then we would all be running around with grenade launchers, attack dogs, pepper spray and handcuffs......

This is exactly why you don't want a whole mess of newbies pitching in to decide the future of the game, because you turn it into just another Swat or doom clone....

You would have to be a complete idiot not to understand that.

In addition to that, I have never seen one good suggestion EVER on the steampowered forums, it's all just stupid 'KIDDY WANNA BLOW STUFF UP YA YA' suggestions that are not thought out or even correlated in a manner that actually gives their idea some credence. Valve will listen if you conduct your idea in a way that is benficial to them and to the game / community as a whole.

I'm not sure why you're refering to the forums, was that referenced in the debate? (I missed it, due to an eating frenzy). But I've read plenty of good suggestions, from new game modes to a death cam. As for grenade/missile launchers, to be fair, that was seriously officially considered for implementation with CZ.

There are several bugs and errors that get posted at those forums that never get fixed. I stopped going there because they dont listen to the community. No buddy wanted dynamic pricing...it was the biggest waste of time coding that into CS. I rarely see a server with that enabled.

Steampowered forums sounds like an awful place to submit suggestions.

They should make you pay $1-5 per suggestion to weed out all of the stupid suggestions that clearly have massive flaws. Valve doesn't have time to look at 20 posts a day on suggestions (that have most likely been repeated).
