    Dude, you've defused a Dell

Development studio Threewave Software has released some more information on the forthcoming advertisements in Counter-Strike. Whilst not releasing the names of the clients, it appears that in at least one form, these new advertisements will also involve entirely new maps:
Imagine terrorists have taken over a factory belonging to, say, Compaq Computers. It's your job to take back the factory, running with guns ablaze past corporate logos in hallways designed so you cannot avoid the brand emblazoned on their walls.

"You run into the computer factory and the new line [of computers, which the company is trying to promote] is coming off the assembly line. They're being spray-painted, all of that sort of thing," he said. "It's the product placement, it's the brand integration, and it doesn't seem like a disparate experience where you know that you're having an ad shoved in your face."
Hey, new maps! No one can complain about that, right? Well wash and buff your eyeballs to view them soon, because the launch date for cs_brandnamecomputerfactoryassault (tm) is right around the corner:
Designed as a multi-player add-on level to popular first-person shooter Counter-Strike, it is expected to launch in early 2007.
Feel like reading the financial section of the newspaper for a change? Then read on!

Maybe they should fix bugs and improve gameplay first before shoving ads down our throats ?

A third-party developer should fix the bugs in someone elses game? I find your ideas intriguing and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

          What I meant was....

.... Valve should get their priorities right.

Instead of whoring out deals that no doubt will take up time that could have been used to say fix the bugs that source and 1.6 respectively have.

I would just love for someone at Valve to say, 'we are working on it' but they clearly aren't, everything they do these days is intended to try and squeeze more money from people. And this has led to them becoming totally disenfranchised from their player base.

Newsletter is $5 per year btw ;D

Perhaps they can afford fixing bugs now.

Wonder if they have laptops in it..like the ones with the batteries that exploded (Toshiba, Sony)..that would be fun ^^

Or perhaps they'll have computers with Vista in them..then we cant complain about our small bugs....

                how about surf_tonyhawk, lolz

But seriously, what's to stop me from spraying goatse all over their ads? The non-sprite ones, I mean. That would sort of defeat the purpose of the ads.

Oh, and if the hostages are "$COMPUTER_BRAND employees" or something, I'd just shoot them. The terrorists were doing us a favor, IMO.

edit: also i would think that shooting their computers and logos would be negative reinforcement of the above, but i guess the companies are looking for any advertising they can get vv

That's their point. You have to see the ad in order to cover it up. Or shoot it.

I doubt people will play the maps. Maybe if they made a really cool map on the source engine. But we've seen pretty much everything a map has to offer on the HL engine.

Yea, because terrorists taking over a computer factory is so realistic.

Everyone will forget the logos are even there in a few weeks time... I would be consontrating more on shooting a ct or t tbh...

But i wont have to see them anyways seen as i play CS:S:)

One thing i dont get tho is why would valve want company's to advertise there old HL 1 engine instead of the new source engine?

It would seem a step in the wrong direction to me anyone else?
