Perhaps the most significant thing from a source perspective:

"Meanwhile, we’re working on some changes to the weapons in CS: Source (pistols, specifically) based on what we’ve learned from the pricing experiment."

Does this mean nerfing the deagle, or taking away the free pistols, or what...?

You'll get used to it, but it's still totally lame.

I feel stupid, though. I thought in-game advertisement was only reserved to the greediest of publishers and developers.

The best way to figure out what Valve is going to do is to take what you and many people think would make sense... and do the exact opposite. So, to me and most people, it seems like the pistols are fine, yet Valve is going to change them up. Formula works well so far!

Most of us would say that major bugs should be fixed before adding stuff no one asked for, but Valve completely disagrees. Instead of fixing stuff, they added the radar, which no one asked for, and made a bunch of new bugs in the process. Yay! Promotions all around!

What will probably happen is the deagle will be nerfed, and the Five-seven and Compact given a boost, even though they already have a crazy system (DWP) in place to deal with balancing.. sort of.

I just actually read the interview and fuck me this is bad news for counter - strike and CSS seriously these guys obviously don't care about the gameplay or the game that was once a true competitive game that would keep people on thre feet and trying to improve there skills in the game.

counter strike has officially turned into a POS game that looks like EA should have made.

Seriously wtf why stuff up things more when u have so many stuff ups already just fix the game we bought and got make a crappy new game with all ur stupid updates that no one wants.

The REAL problem with this is Valve doesn't run any CS servers. Without servers Valve has no one to advertise to. Servers cost money to buy and run. Do the admin's get a cut of the advert money that Valve is making off them???

Its like running a TV channel but all the advert revenue goes to the bloke who reads the news!?

if they arn't obstructive i don't mind, but this says it all doesn't it

"...so it is our hope that first time Counter-Strike purchasers will consider it simply as part of the game world."

not only don't they care about the people who already make it the most popular online game but it doesn't even say first time cs PLAYERS, it says PURCHASERS, they don't care if they even play it.

                  That\'s so true.

Another problem would be for communities and server providers. I would shut down my servers ASAP if I saw advertisements from a rival community on my servers.

"Not going anywhere for a while...?"
Damn, I tried to think of that one, but couldn't remember it. Great fit, Mars would be fools not to buy it.

Maybe he's making a sly cock punch towards people who steal the game.

I have a feeling clans don't have the kind of $$ Valve would ask from marketers for prime access to that sweet sweet tween/teen demographic.

Very thorough interview with good questions, some smart one remaining unanswered by Valve.

For Valve to answer so much questions before even starting their ad system, it shows they plan to do a really awful implementation of it.

I just hope if it is that awful, someone will start an outcry in the news with an ingame picture of terrorist players around an ad and maybe some very bad taste things like charred CT corpse or rapped and killed hostages with a caption saying how X Inc. is supporting terrorism and slaughter.

I mean, for once, these stupid sensationalist articles by politician could be used to actually achieve something good for gamers.
I've experienced this first hand as a former mod at Steampowered
Is that you talking Zips ?

The DWP "riot" shot your motivation down or it is just in order to conduct the interview in an irreproachable independant way ?

Hey Valve, I just would like to let you know that we'll find a way to block them, (if there isnt a method already...) so don't love your ad system too much, bitches.

Yep, that question was asked by me. Hm, I'll go with the irreproachable, independent route as the reason that question was asked.

..So more of my CPU & internet bandwidth resources going to viewing ads, instead of gameplay? Well that just sucks...

No doubt anti violence evangelicists will use this as another excuse to show the very thin line between video games and reality.

                              Bad news all round.

..If there's going to be huge bright colourful MOUNTAIN DEW, PEPSI, and SUBWAY logos all over Dust2, i quit CS. Valve are getting worse every day, bring back WON.
