Id think it is fairly simple to add a gun to the game, at the very least edit a current guns file to a new one with different looks and damage..
I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this thought that programming a new weapon would be simple.

You have to take into consideration fire power, fire rate, damage, accuracy, and many other things. Then you'd have to test it, tweak it to see if the damage is realistic (or plausible for that matter...), test wether or not it can still shoot through walls (9mm shooting through a door as quickly & powerfully as an AK47? I don't think so.)

Design animations for it, both world and view I should add, and get all the bugs worked out.

I don't consider programming a new weapon to be .. simple.

Actually, programming a new weapon into the game, would be very, very simple, as m4elite says. What you're talking about though is balancing the weapon. That's quite a different matter, and something that they obviously never bother to do for CS (because if they did, then surely there wouldn't be such a 'crap weapon, great weapon' divide in CS like there is now)

Well, dont forget modelling, skinning and animating. That takes real time and skill.

your all bad seriously the only person I agree with in here is m4elite

valve can take there DWP crap elsewhere I dont want to have a thing to do with it and if I have my way at least half the australian servers will use the old money system because frankly the DWP sytem is a joke.

Theres no way changing the prices every week is a good thing and for all u pub nubs who think bla bla bla shotguns are pro gg stfu they are not and u are bad go around shooting people in 1.6 with mac10s and shottys see how pro u are caeks seriously shape up these stupid guns need to be lower in power and harder to use rather than cheaper for everyone and more random.

source is random but its the future and if we let crap like this happen now its going to die.

It's stupid shit like this that makes sure the professional community doesn't take source seriously....
see here's the thing, unless you're one of the 2% that plays professionally, nobody else gives a shit what the 'professional community' thinks

To deny the importance and impact the competitive community had on 1.3/1.5/1.6 CS is just stupid.

Yes Clans/Leagues have had an impact. I feel they suck the life out of the game by fighting every change to it tooth and nail. They brow beat others into accepting only certain maps and styles of play. They also have l337 names with a lot of squiggly lines and such.

I enjoy the changing nature of CS and always look forward to the next beta. If I had to play with the same 3 maps and 3 guns I would cry my little nub eyes out. There should be a reason for every piece of equipment in CS and a reason to be proficent using said items. Otherwise we are only playing 1/3 of the game we paid full price for.

As to the weapon pricing: it's good to see Valve trying to balance the game more by making the lame guns cheaper, but it's not working out as planned: I miss the pistol round and $4k for a DE?

The effects of weapon pricing are totaly different depending on how many rounds of play before the server resets. On most severs where the maps run forever, pricing only effects the first couple of rounds. If it's only 5 rounds a side then price is a large factor in game play.

I hate to break it to you, but people have been fighting tooth and nail every change made to CS since beta 5.2. Back then your average player's idea of a clan was just a tag you got to stick on your name and look cool on public servers with your friends.

Anyway the DWP system seems completely arbitrary and has no real rhyme or reason. There's a LOT more to weapon pricing than how popular the gun is. The AWP for example is extremely powerful in certain situations, but in general it is a very bad idea for the majority of your team to have AWPs because it leaves them extremely vulnerable to the much more versatile rifles. Does that mean since less people buy AWPs that it should be cheaper than rifles? Of course not, the price of the AWP is balanced so you can't get it early in the game, and when you do get it you need to control your use of it so as to make sure you can keep it, because if you die with it you're probably not going to be able to afford it again, you're not supposed to be, that's called balance. And also since the AWP is vulnerable to rifles at close range, it needs to be more expensive than rifles so teams with less money have SOME sort of counter to it.

The other guns in CS are functionally useless simply because they really can't be any better than they are. What niche do you fill between the default pistol and deagle that is worth the money? How is a mac10/ump/tmp ever going to be worth it over an mp5, which will always be overall better and more versatile in almost every situation? How can they make the shotgun slightly more appealing without overshadowing the SMGs?

The problem is there are just too many guns, some are going to be dead weight.

Its the pub players who only play dust2 with shotguns that will kill css not the competitive community.

The competitive community wants things to change so the game will be more popular and played in comps around the world not just so pub players get pissed off, I cant stand how these random pub players praise all these changes and forget to realise that with out ladders and comps the game will die and get boring quick GG to pub players and GG to WMP.

Next they will introduce tax's on guns like GST and a new bank loan system where players need to borrow money just to buy a 16000 deagle and if they lose they basically have to knife for 10 rounds GG.

                        Don't feel bad MikeJ,

I have been playing CS since you could kill hostages with flashbangs, the colt had a scope and there were no DE maps. I just don't like the attitude of "I pwn @ this verzion of CS, Never change anything. ever!" That attitude seems to dominate CS, especially so in clans/ladders. I am enjoying the Beta test for the most part. I miss the pistol round but it's nice to see some MGs and shotguns come out before the assault rifles. Here's a radical idea: how about when you die you loose all your money as well as as all your equipment?

Then the cheap guns would actually have a reason to exist in game.

I'm okay with change, but not with change for the sake of changing things. I made the switch from 1.6 to Source because I was simply bored with 1.6 and its competitive scene, and I'm much happier with the scene in Source.

I didn't like the addition of the shield, because there wasn't a reason or place for it. I was fine with the addition of the Famas and Galil. I still have issues with the new radar, but it mostly stems from not being able to zoom it out.

Valve is touching up stuff that really doesn't need to be messed with. The radar was fine, gun prices are fine for the most part.. but there's tons of more pressing issues that need addressing. I don't understand why every gun needs to be useful and viable when there's so many guns. If they're ALL viable, we're going to have a fucking lot of repetitive, boring guns.. because there's a lot of equipment.

When the shit are we going to be able to stand on physics objects?
