The only benefits I can see to using a videogame such as an FPS as a training tool is to help improve hand eye coordination, and to help improve upon teamwork/communication.

However, on the battlefield being able to read and or anticipate your comrads body movements and actions are some of the most critical parts of combat operations. If you can't physically trust your buddy, who could you trust with your life except for yourself?

why cant valve just shut down the accounts ? its simple it sucks but at least they can control the accounts.
Probably because they're not doing anything illegal or against Valve's rules, as far as I know.

"The game, "Counter-Strike", invites players to plant two bombs on the oil tanker to sink it and make the strait of Hormuz impassable, the Jomhouri-ye Eslami daily reported. About two-fifths of globally traded oil passes through the channel.
I want to play this map!

Didn't I see an article here on CSN taking about China or Korea using it as a training tool as well?

                  There was pictures and everything.
We had a slightly-similar (but not very) topic a few years back. See this news post

Hand eye coordination for pressing buttons doesn't really help when your trying to control recoil and steady a weapon for aiming (most video games not just fps, will improve your vision and hand-eye), I don't see a communication or teamwork benefit either as communicating in a FPS doesn't need to be learned, "i need help" "the guy is at A" "sniper!" "follow me" "cover this person/direction" those are really all the communication you would use in a FPS and you don't need to be trained to know when to say them.

I guess FPS games could help you train tactics, but the game doesn't teach you the tactics, you have to come up with them and you could train tactics in more effective ways then in a game. Hell playing paintball would be allot more effective, simulations are helpfull to train for most things but lets face it you can't simulate a combat environment, hell I love games like Operation flashpoint and americas army (about as reallistic games there are) but I don't fell I would do any better in a combat situation then someone who has never played a game would.

From the artical, its a totaly diffrent game, developed in-state and not affiliated with valve and our beloved Counter-Strike.

I was wondering if anybody else thought that..They said the game is made by a team of 8. Not just a map for CS. A new game.

i do not know why iran's army would depend on a game to train their army. the united states itself is already all so friendly with them giving them our fighter jet technologies (f16s, f18s) and training methods.
