Interesting. I just assumed they would be making static changes to the prices; a one-time deal. This dynamic price idea is very intriguing, but I doubt that it will change things all that much. Price for AK and M4 will probably go up for a couple weeks, then drop back down once players can't afford them as often anymore. I expect to see an ebb and flow of prices for all weapons, I hope they graph it on SteamPowered.com at some point. With all the AWP-whores out there though (and I have been one) this might put a damper on sniping. I'll be sad when the Scout is no loger so cheap though. I hope the pump shotty doesn't climb too much. And I'll bet the Glock and 5.7 drop to about 5 bucks before long ;P

EDIT: Oh yeah, this absolutely ruins tactics for competetive play. I don't care myself since I hardly play anymore, but having to alter strats each week based on the new pricing is gonna be giving a lot of clans headaches soon.

I like it, it makes the whole game feel as one. The community effects how the game is played (essentially), makes it feel like it really is a community game rather than just your little unit of players.

Since the number of truly professional-level competitive players is decreasing, I really couldn't care less how this effects people who are into 'serious play'. It's not like it's a biased change only effecting you or your team, it effects everyone; so long as it effects everyone, then it's balanced. Plus it means for once maybe all those 'serious' players will use more than the same two weapons over and over too.

Also, if a clan can't handle the idea of having to switch up what weapons they use on a week-by-week basis, then those clans probably aren't good enough to get anywhere anyway. It's not exactly rocket science, most CS players can work out what they can and can't afford and what gets you the most bang for your buck within the space of the first few seconds of a round starting.

The only downside to all this that I can see though, is that a few weapons which need to be cheap to be worthwhile, are going to have their prices bumped up, whilest others which need to cost a lot to be blanced, are goign to see a price drop - I'm thinkingly mostly here of the MP5 and the 'auto snipers'. The MP5 is used by virtually everyone mostly because it's very effective considering it's current price, if the price goes up (which it will due to it's over-use) then that's going to take away it's main advanatage, and with the 'auto snipers' since so few servers allow them, few people use them the price drops like a rock, then on the few servers which do allow them it's 'auto sniper domination' all-round.

it makes the game alot more random bokuho... and for a game like cs:s, it was random enough.

This is a great point. As far as the MP5 goes, I expect it will climb a bit for a few weeks, then drop again as it gets too pricey to be valuable. But your point about the autosnipers is especially keen. I wonder if all the AWP-banned servers will skew the price lower than it should be. That could be a disaster, depending on how many AWP-banned servers there are.

This is great news for competitive pub

as for comps around the world I feel they are now going to suffer a huge loss as the serious teams will now drop off and return to 1.6 this is really bad news for source comps but great news to pub players.

            SIGH.

Holy shit. This is such a huge change that I can't help but applaud. Finally source is so far gone from 1.6, that there needn't be any more bullshit arguments about what is for competition and what is not. This is fucking awesome.

                  The CSN Daily

Latest statistics of Valve's newest changes to the CS weapon prices show the awp price will drop to an amazing $0 with their dynamic price change system. Valve is baffled as to why nobody has been buying this top quality gun.

In unrelated Valve news, developers are still trying to determine what the variable amx_ban_awp 1 is since they did not code it into the game.

In financial news tonight, it seems T and CT employee pay is up an amazing 2000% across the board, from $800 to $16000. Financial experts expect this is normal inflation in response to the increased cost of destruction and freedom, respectively.

Its simple really.. all the real competitive players still play 1.6 (as they should)

People who just want to play for fun/pub etc.. can play CS:S, its better for noobs. CS:S was never as good for competive gaming. I dont really see the problem, if you want good balanced competitive gameplay .. play 1.6. If you wanna play casually.. play source. Its always been this way.

One a side note this is VERY innovative, no other online FPS has something like this.

I wonder if there will be a minimum price? I could see the mac10 dropping to $500. then what?

I really feel bad now for the people who play CSS competitively.

And doesn't it seem like colt/ak/awp/deagle prices will just keep going up, since the numbers are based on amount of money spent on the guns? Since the prices keep increasing each week the money spent will keep going up higher and higher. It's not like people are going to stop buying the good guns... they'll just have to save an extra round maybe.

If Valve doesn't have a CVAR to go with this... well, that would just be retarded.

All I can say for this is WTF?

IMHO, Valve has done something very clever. Valve has created a dynamic system of balancing out the weapon costs. Now the less used weapons will be cheaper, and the more often used weapons will cost more. Good weapons are going to shoot up in price, and shitty weapons will go down in price.

Innovative, but basically straight fucking stupid. Would have been cool if this was April, and it was a joke.

Introducing ridiculously idiotic concepts does accomplish their goal of making it different, but they could also just model a giant asshole and have it shit on the face of every player in-game every Monday, and they'd accomplish the same thing.

I can't wait until the competitive scene organizes nights of mass buying of shitty guns, just to jack the prices up.

you are so wrong, its not like source was ever out to be a pub game it was meant to be the newest of the cs series to replace 1.6 and all was looking great till this.

1.6 has had its day of glory and it will soon end for the simple fact that people need updates and eyecandy... no point having top of the range pc's to play a game that would run on a playstation 1.

source was the answer and finally with the awesome updates that were long awaited for it looked to be taking back the players it deserverd from 1.6. Comps were poping up everywhere with sourcetv now being fixed but sadly this will end due to weekly changes in the money.

This is the most fucked up thing source has had yet and sadly I dont see it as being the last.
