I very much doubt that the smoke scenario will be a reality, since you can't even see names through smokes. You probably won't be able to "tag" an enemy on your radar through a smoke either.

That is a good point, and probably the right assumption, I am more concerned with the impact it has on competitive gaming. I believe for Pubs this is the smartest thing that they could have done...however, it is going to be much harder to ninja a bomb to a different site now if they know there are only 4 guys rushing instead of 5...but again, I will remain optimistic, so long as this isn't like a halo style radar i dont see myself having any major issues with it. (unless this update allows for hacks to exploit the information transmitted by opposing teams on the radar)

If a person wants to cheat, they will have the option to cheat with ESP, wallhacks, and many other hacks out on the internet.

Furthermore, Valve doesn't base their schedule around the competitive CS leagues. I don't see them starting to any time soon either.
I think they should. Competitive players put a lot of time into practicing, respecting at least one large league like CAL is surely to win more friends than enemies.

Don't even start that pointless arguement here.
what makes it a pointless argument and not a legitimate concern? i dont understand.

What i was referring to was that it will be even harder to catch hackers due to the fact that now there will be radar dots that can legitimize certain prefires. Valve has to be very careful on how they implement this radar is all I am saying, but again I will remain optimistic for now.

                I'll agree with someone above.

They should attempt fixing the current bugs before adding new features to cover up/forget about the current issues.

What friends? Over the years, CS is still the most played online FPS, and I don't think that came about because they delayed updates due to the schedule of others. Competitive players account for the smaller percertage of players out of the whole here.

So Valve will bend their already busy schedules to appease the smallest percentage of CS players out there, thus alienating and making the majority wait when they shouldn't have to? Yes, Valve should try and please 100%, but that just isn't going to happen. Sacrifices have to be made.

I agree with Zips.. Also, CAL is not more special then any other competitive league that's run worldwide.. All start at different times, so I can fully understand Valve doesn't even wanna go there, it's just a waist of time and effort pleasing just 1 league and leaving out others.. CAL will survive this change, just like CS has survived 7 years of changes.. I'm just happy Valve is still working on trying to improve CS after such a long time..

CAL is arguably the most important and influential league on the planet. Look at any changes they've made to match formats, the competition has pretty much always followed.

Europeans used to play max rounds 15, and switched over due to CAL/CPL's MR12 format, and when CAL switched to 15, they switched to 15. How about round times? CAL also set the standard.

That said, Valve bending their schedule to appease CAL players like myself would admittedly be a little silly.

Eh, Counter-Strike: Source is rather...not good anyways, and I find the competitive play a joke. Even the CS:Source "frag compilation" videos are as entertaining as watching paint dry.

*crosses fingers in hopes of not getting chastened or flamed for expressing negative opinion on behalf of the almighty Lord Valve's products*

I'd say welcome the change, though. It's obvious CS:S will never be what Counter-Strike was--or even is today--with just a graphics upgrade, modified sounds, and some physics objects (as it was obviously intended to be as all aspects of the game, such as the spray patterns; movement speed; and weapon behavior, are, according to Valve, identical to CS's), so perhaps it should be made into something else. This may be a start.

When I first tried CS:S, I hated it, and when I first played in a scrim on it, it felt awful. It really just takes getting used to. I could never go back to 1.6 now.

We just earned a main spot in CAL CS:S, and I think we're playing the team ZackMorris manages for first round of playoffs.

Hehe - Thanks Rizzuh for seeing my side.

Here is the truth: Competitive players (CAL, CEVO, CPL, ETC) make up a smaller percentage of the total CS:S userbase - So I am sure Valve doesn't necessarily schedule their releases around our schedules since we are just a small percentage.

However, as small as we are, the competitive players are the ones who are doing the big things as far as television, major sponsors, and in general just bringing a lot of attention to CS - So as small as we are, we do make an impact and help get more players to start playing Counter-Strike by doing what we do.

So although we are the minority here my point has just been stated above - Valve could give a little thought to their releases sometimes - At least their major ones that affect gameplay.

And I am sure that if this was released a couple weeks later, after playoffs, then their would be a lot less complaining than there is now - Sure people will still complain - They always do!

EDIT: And for the record I am not flaming this Steam update and gameplay change - I think it will make the game more exciting and faster paced. I cant wait for it ... Would rather wait 2 extra weeks for it however
