    CPL Developing Anti-Cheat

In an attempt to thwart the evil hackers in the Source world, CPL today announced that it will be working together with CAL to create an anti-cheat system by this years end that will be used in all CAL matches and at future CPL tournaments.
The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) announced today that it has commenced development of a software anti-cheat solution for its online league, the Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL). The CAL Anti-Cheat System will provide a multi-game client to further ensure fair competition in CAL tournaments and CPL online qualifiers.

Members of the CPL competition committees will eventually be invited to interact with software engineers, and help establish a system that is simple, reliable and keep the needs of gamers in focus. When released later this year, the Anti-Cheat System will be free of charge to all CAL members and participants of CPL's online qualifiers.
This announcement comes at a good time for all of us honest players out there. A major CAL-i player being banned for using cheats yesterday as well as the number of CAL-O players being caught cheating is increasing. It is getting pretty frustrating.

Will this be available to public server administrators?

I don't see where it says this is for source only. It even says "multi-game client" in the release so I'd assume this means for 1.6 also.

      I hope this doesn't suck.

This will be available to CAL/CPL people for free. They might charge for the service if it is a public is my guess

              Valve Allows Cheaters...?

While I love VALVe and support them, VAC2 still isn't as secure as it should be.

Besides your opinion, what exactly are you basing this on?

Cold, hard facts of the number of cheats actually banned? Couldn't be, because those aren't publically known. So what is it then?

I think he might be basing it on the fact that when you join pubs you still have people joining who are blatantly cheating just to ruin the game. I'm not sure how much ban numbers really matter when you still have to deal with people blatantly cheating.

It's been months and months since I've seen a blatent cheater in a Source game. I don't see where people keep experiencing cheaters in "every server they go to" when I can join random servers and not experience one.

VAC2 works pretty well stopping the public random 13 year old kid who downloads a hook from myg0t or something (public released hacks)...

What VAC2 is not good at catching is those non-public released hacks. a cheater in CAL will never get his hacks from a public site, they will get the privately made ones through IRC...

They are VAC2 proof for the sole reason that they are not shared with the public and Valve doesn't know about them.

So VAC2 works well to us random players - But not too well against the CAL players who use hacks. That is why this news post is a good thing.

I thought all CAL players were required to record video session of their game. Why is that not solid proof? It used to be.

VAC2 works fine in source, but it works really poorly in 1.6 (I guess they don't update it at all). There are about a half year old public and still working hacks out there, and no, it's not banning them delayed. They show no love for 'back catalog' games.

Because you can't trust an admin.

I'm not sure how the trust of an admin ties in with demo records?

Zips, I respect you, and I thought you were a credible source of information. If you are going to sit there and tell me you haven't seen a cheater on Source in months, either you don't play source much, or you are flat out lying. I don't know how stupid you think the readers CS-Nation are, but it is obvious to anyone with half a brain that Vac2 does not do a good job of stopping hackers.
