My money on Xfire, is that it's going to become a new Steamlike content delivery system. Think about it, absolutely massive player base of hardcore gamers with net connections. It may sound ridiculous now, but give it a year and you'll all be downloading whatever game it is through xfire.Comment

they'll probably scan your game and send ads to you that way
playing cs_office? wait til you die for an ad to stream to you: "Bored? DVD Player not getting enough use? THEN BUY THE NEW SPECIAL EDITION OF OFFICE SPACE NOW, AVAILABLE ON DVD"
WoW? "Tired of level grinding? THEN BUY THE NEW OFFICIAL STATEGY GUIDE SHOWING YOU ALL THE COOL HINTS IN THE WORLD OF AZEROTH"
and etc. and etc...
edit: lol @ irony of intellitxt ads reformating my post :PComment

You can already do that with demos and other files. Nothing really new there for Xfire.

What ever happened with that lawsuit crap between Xfire and Yahoo? If that wasn't settled already, I can only imagine it becoming much, much bigger as a result of this...
Anyway, when you stop and think about it, despite the fact that Xfire has a huge potential for making money, MTV could in all likelihood better utilize the resource for their advertising purposes. What's more... as well-known as Xfire is in our community, there are still plenty of gamers I know who've never heard of Xfire or installed it on their own machines. MTV has the resources with which to change that and grow far beyond the already massive existing user-base.
Call it a sell-out if you want, but they're promising to continue supporting the program as they always have, it has remained free to use, and now the dev team is a collective group of millionaires. If you ask me, that's a pretty sweet deal, and I for one salute them for a job well done -- it's cool to see a group with vision pull off something incredible and earn their rewards for doing so.Comment

the last thing i want is :xXfall out boyXx: messaging me with "omG d u KnOW how 2 get teh sims2 To WoRK?!?"
basically what i'm saying is that all the intelligent/tech-savy people out there already have xfire, and mtv is only going to attract the smacktards (just like when any forum/game/meme on the net gets popular)Comment
