Well, it's been great talking to you. I really wanted to hear the political view of a CS player. Please be careful to not trip over my gigantic American penis.
Coming to a TV near you...

Fuck off. The other guy was bang out of line in criticising American TV with some of the worst arguments ever put forward since those Hollow Earth guys. But to claim The Office was inspired by American sitcoms puts you right next to him.
The Office was made by a brit who was inspired by how some American shows tried to go deeper than the usual sitcom.
The mockumentary is quintessentially english. And the whole humour behind it all, the darkness, the depression is just something that you didn't find in American TV. American sitcoms are very good in telling shiny happy funny jokes about young go getters (Friends, Will and Grace, etc etc) or some boring family sitcom that adheres to the formula no matter what and appeals to the core of middle america.
Sure, you've got some edgier and new stuff coming forward. Arrested Development totally got rid of any American sitcom formulas, and was a breath of fresh air. It's a shame that no one in America decided to watch it.
Britain has produced some of the best comedies around without sticking to any preconceived formulas. Things like "The Young Ones", "The Fast Show", "League of Gentlemen", "Spaced", "Black Books" and "Little Britain" and even "Monkeydust" are excellent examples of British Television.
And it's not only comedies that Britain can do. BBC News, fucking awesome, we don't have to put up with those "shiny happy informal" newscasters, or "SHOCK HORROR! JOHN KERRY IN HOMOSEXUAL INCIDENT" shocker news programs. None of the stupid right wing shenanigans of Fox and no talking down to the audience - "So with global warming, everyone on earth will die, but how will that affect our viewers?". BBC News, public broadcasting, so good it's orgasmic.
We also happen to do gameshows, but I hate them.Comment

man, i dunno. americans in general are really ignorant about the rest of the world. sure, u can read up stuff on the internet or in the news, but the fact is, uve been spending ur whole life in the same house all ur life. seriously, get a passport and live somewhere else for a year or two, then come back to america and see how brainwashed and closeminded everyone is. sure, there r some ppl who can read between the lines n dont give into the crap, n props to them, but too many ppl just blindly claim that america is the best without even thinking. if the majority of americans were actually willing enough to be open-minded about the rest of the world and acknowledge the fact that america ISNT THE BEST IN MANY THINGS, then i dont think there would be retarded Fox news or stupid CNN. the brits at least know whats going on, which is why BBC is there. n mind u, the world doesnt consist only of english-speaking ppl. asia is in many ways far superior to what other countries have to offer (including america :O), which u can realize once u go n live there. america just lacks a real culture. ppl dont noe what to believe; they dont have their minds set. so wishy-washy. there r so many FAKE ppl in america. u guys jus gotta get out of here n live somewhere else for a change. try germany. try korea. just try something else. n then ur eyes will be opened.

Fukkaknuckles.
His english doens't even qualify for broken english. By the way, I know what you mean, my parents are Korean, so I have a decent amount of Korean culture in my life, in fact I can speak Korean fluently and maybe because of this fact, I see more than a normal American does. But yeah, you're right, a lot of people like conforming to what's mainstream, whether it be opinions or clothes. It's saddening to see people buy American Eagle and Abercrombie & Fitch just because it's what everyone is wearing, but that is the same in a lot of countries. In my opinion, the United States is a great country, but like any other country, it needs improving. It has things that other countries don't, and it's the same the other way around. You guys need to stop thinking you're the greatest and accept that your own countries have problems too. But whatever, I'm going to stop before I involve myself anymore in this, weren't we talking about esports on TV?Comment

I love people who still use "u" and "r", yet fully expect everyone else to regard them as cultured.
Protip: Living in other cultures is a wonderful way to have your eyes opened. Opened to how completely ridiculous other cultures can really be. Ace wants to talk about Korea, which is interesting in the way the local news is completely worthless. It's also fun for how you can go to a straight club and watch men ditch their dates to take their shirts off and dance/grope eachother. And a country chock-full of people who LIKE playing MMO grindfests is great.
You know what's really fucking awesome about visiting other countries though? Most of them have people going through this patriotic inferiority complex at the merest mention of America.hahnchen wrote..

I'm guessing you're a brit. Brits are supposed to have great senses of irony, so i'm sure you'll appreciate that American television just allowed an American to correct you on a British man's inspiration for a British show.Comment

It's hard to take you serious when you don't know how to form coherent sentences and thoughts or even how to spell. Also, you might want to do something about that inferiority complex you have when people talk about America. As far as not having a culture, our culture is the most pervasive of the western world. You go to countries that don't speak English yet they're playing English songs, there's a Mcdonalds on the corner, and on tv there's fucking Full House dubbed over. Full House. I have to stress that, because if a country is desperate enough to dub and show Full House then they're pretty hard up for shows. That was in France in case you want to say I'm making it up.

I don't get what it is with people and having these feelings of intense inferiority when we point out that we have the most pervasive western culture and the largest entertainment industry. We're not saying your country sucks so it seems odd when people seem to have all this pent up rage to rail against the US for being a superpower. Hey, we can't all be superpowers, it just wouldn't be super now would it?
I'm interested in what utopia you live in.Comment

Maybe that would have mattered, had you not utterly represented The Office's beginnings, and tried to pin it all on those glorious American sitcoms. I'm sure Ricky Gervais is inspired by American television, his recent interviews and appearance in the Simpsons underlies that fact, he's regulary quoted as saying that the Simpsons is the greatest TV show ever. Your whole comment on the Office was loaded as to suggest that The Office's sole reason for existence were those wonderfully inspiring American sitcoms. Maybe you didn't flat out say that, but reading from your comments, it's absolutely what you tried to convey. Gervais is doing a lot of work in the US right now, of course he has to pander to the American audience.

You write about the inferiority complex the rest of the world seems to have. And yet belittle other cultures around you. If you can so easily dismiss other cultures like they didn't exist, with arguments that no one is going to take seriously, it really makes your other comments look kind of spineless.
Do you really think the rest of the world hates America? Maybe it's true, maybe it's because America is so much better than everyone else, that the only way we can make ourselves feel better is by belittling your strange shaped footballs, or you beautiful beautiful cars. But it wasn't always this way. After September 11, the world was by America's side, people were marching in Tehran in a show of support for America. You were bathing in goodwill. And in 5 years, all that has gone to be replaced with quite possibly the greatest sense of global animosity to America. Ask yourselves why this is.
Fnuckles made such an amazingly stupid and nonsensical post. You could have responded with some measured criticisms or comments. Instead you joined him in belittling all cultures that aren't yours. May Pat Robertson bless your American penis.Comment

I know why. It's because everyone not from whatever country you're from are not individuals, but actual sentient countries. Like continental Go-Bots. That's how come the land masses changed. Doi. DOOOOOIIIIII.

Look at a map and tell me that's not true. 500,000 years ago, China had too much Thailand. So it went to the Pacific and took a Japan.Comment

lol. u gotta be kidding me. choosing to type in such a way (as in using "u" and "r") automatically labels me as unintelligent? am i unable to express ideas by using such "words" regardless of whether or not they are politically and commonly unaccepted? we are on the internet. i am assuming u noe how to read 1337 sp34k, rite n00bs? if THAT means something to u, then y doesnt "u" or "r" mean anythin? haha, does that actually make me dumb? i suggest u consider ur logic, and test if it even IS logic.
it saddens me that ppl who think in such ways feel that an entire post, regardless of what ideas it may contain, must disregard it as "not serious" simply due to the fact that the post is written in letters or something. it surprises me that replacing "you" with "u" makes the sentence incoherent. what the heck r u smoking? note that i realize i redundantly said "all ur life" or whatever in that last quote, but get past it. u should judge one by their ideas, not their uber 1337 spelling skillz. gg noobs.
incase ur wondering, im actually a grammar and spelling freak. didnt get a 35 on the english portion of the act for nothing. lets think about that...
just spell when its completely necessary. otherwise, just do enough for people to understand. thats what communication is, right?

anyways, to get back on topic, if it even matters, i think the guy who talking about dubbed full house in france or whatever is a good example of the ignorance in america. america has been a large influence in the world with the westernization of countries everywhere (and dont forget about the countless numbers of mcdonald$$$), but that influence is dying out quickly with the emergence of a new cultural influence that is dominating asia. that influence, my friend, comes from the small country of SOUTH KOREA. yeah, bs, right? i mean seriously, who actually cares about south korea? well, if u take the time to read up on whats actually happening on the other side of the world, you will soon realize that the korean domination is nothing to push aside. korean entertainment is immensely popular in asia. china, japan, vietnam, thailand, u name it; korea is BIG in all of those countries, n its getting bigger. u can even go to hawaii and get a sample of what its all about. ppl r singing and listening to korean songs, watching korean tv shows, watching korean movies... forming korean-entertainment-related clubs... all this is being done in a way unique from those of different countries, including america. such a small country is having its culture willingly imported and, to some extents, adopted, and its playing a huge part in the lives of asians. korean tv is part of their regular tv channels. ownage?
i believe europe is touching upon this as well, with a sort of "trading" program between south korea and great britain, to my knowledge. britain n korea have plans to get a taste of each other's culture by having korean singers perform in britain for a bit and then switching it off with something from the british in korea.
america had its time, when the rest of the world was still developing. westernization was huge. still is, to some degree... but its dying. or has died. basically is dead. choose what u wish; today's america is now korea. with the internet being what it is today, its actually easy to see the smaller countries developing faster from now on, because those countries (s. korea and japan, basically) have the fastest internet in the world, the newest gadgets, the most up-to-date technology.. they ARE the up-to-date technology. sadly, there isnt so much to brag about in america these days. whats so great about america these days?
i think thats why western influence has decreased to such a degree. the unawareness of this and other such truths is why i personally see america as an ignorant country.
everyone else can see it. y not u, america?Comment
