Seriously... as much as I find Garry to be a distateful human being, the outrage over him trying to make a few bucks for his hundreds of hours of effort is rather ridiculous and petty.

I think the main outrage comes from the fact that Garry basically promised his community that the mod (in every form) would always be free. He went back on that word and essentially flipped off the community that trusted him.

Not really when you read the comments. The outrage comes mostly from people who seem to think everything should stay free. Some quote Garry in their arguments, but really what it boils down to is that they don't want to pay yet want the mod and hours of enjoyment.



Garry's promise was a mistake from an industry newbie. He must know this, and I doubt he'll ever rule out anything like that again.

Yeah, their desire for it to remain free still probably goes back to him saying that it would always be free. Key word in all of this is "free" and now that it won't be that, his community is starting to turn on him.

I'm pretty damn sure the majority of those flaming right now, would still be doing so had he never made any comments on it. A portion of his community have and will turn on him because of this, but I bet they'll be dwarfed by the new influx of customers that a Steam release will surely generate.

Why the heck would Tom post on the Steam Review yet another april fools? Garry may have claimed a late April's Fools had the community reaction been even stronger, but it's obvious that a hell of a lot of people are going to buy this potential mod. So what do you choose, lots of money and telling the truth? Or going "LOL! Awe shucks, april fools" and not making a killing?
