      You guys are idiots, honestly.

"Oh no, Valve is being lazy because games are every where! dotdotdot..."

Shut your pie holes and wait for the updates.

--erased because I made a dumbass comment.

all of you who keep saying that we should just be glad Valve updates games at all are the ones who need to shut the hell up. there is NO excuse for a highly-anticipated game released over a year ago to still only have 2 player models and hostage AI about as intelligent as a newborn sea turtle. there's NO excuse for another highly-anticipated game that costs TWENTY DOLLARS to still have only 4 maps, much less only 4 maps at its release. my point in all of this is simple: don't overhype and overprice incomplete, buggy bullshit, and stop making unrealistic release dates.

that said, the 4 maps in DOD:S and even CS:S, despite its shitty AI, are still very fun games and occupy the majority of my gaming time. regardless of how good a game's mechanics are, however, no game is worth spending money on with such little content, ever. period. many of us are just pissed off because we bought the game from Valve under the assumption that they'd keep their promise to release more content in a prompt manner, which they haven't. they're still releasing content, but waiting over a year for 6 charachter models is a bit of a stretch when small-time modmakers, such as those who make replacements for CS and CS:S, can churn out model after model at equal if not better quality in meer weeks for free.

Nighthawk: So games like Darwinia and Rag Doll Kung Fu are sapping resources from Valve and delaying improvements to games like CS:S and DoD:S? Is this what you are implying?
The implication was more that game playing in general probably takes plenty of time away from content development. On one hand, it's research up to a point... finding out what things work for other games, and which aspects would fit well with what they do. On the other... playing just one game can take up quite a bit of time, so how much more is invested if a broad spectrum of new releases are being played? But hey, it's their time to spend as they see fit. :)

notice how you misspelled "misspelled." idiot.
The amusing part is, "misspelt" and "misspelled" are merely variants of "misspell" and in fact both are correct and commonly used words. The former is more commonly used in the UK and the latter in the USA, but both are acceptable English. Calling someone an idiot for a simple spelling error is rude; calling someone an idiot for using a word you don't know, however, makes you look not only rude, but incredibly foolish as well.

This makes me laugh, and sort of shake my head and sigh at the same time. No excuse? What is that supposed to mean? What is with the sense of entitlement?

If you want to go into things there is no excuse for, the first one that comes to mind is buying a product that's clearly sold "as-is" in it's license agreement, and then acting as if you were wronged when it isn't magically transformed into what you want it to become.

Seriously, updates, while we have a good idea that they're likely to come, are in no way guaranteed at any time by VALVe, and ultimately only come by their good grace and sense of business savvy. Yes, they realize that regular updates keep the community buying their games, but there is no requirement for them to add or change anything. They could, right now, say "we decided to never add any more maps to DOD:S, to never add any more player models to CS:S, and in fact update the engine so that no custom maps or models can ever be used" and there wouldn't be a damn thing you could do about it, and they wouldn't owe you anything.

It's just funny to see these kids who have had everything given to them facing the reality of life. Not everything revolves around you, not everything you want will come, and nobody really owes you anything.

Ok you got me on the misspelled thing.

                    other than that, however...

pull your valve fanboy head out of your ass. even if what they're doing isn't wrong, it's still asshole-ish and insulting to supporter who paid good money for their product. the $200 i've spent on valve products, and that doesn't include gifts to other people, make me feel entitled to the timely updates they promised.

oh, and i'm not a "kid." i'm aware that not everything i want is going to be given to me, but if i want something that i paid for, i have every right to bitch about it.

Yes, I remember them saying that. There's only about 2 weeks before Dec., and if those new contents aren't released by this month as they promised, a lot of fans will be dead pissed.
