    Steam News Update

It's time once again for the latest installment of the weekly news update from Steam! Please, hold your applause until the end.
The releases we have coming over the next few weeks are piling up, which means that over the next month we're going to be very busy but the communty is going to get a lot of new content. In between trying to get all of the work done for the Day of Defeat: Source and Counter-Strike: Source releases we have planned, around Valve we've been playing a lot of Darwinia. We play virtually every game that comes out, and it's rare for everyone to be universally excited about one in the way that have with Darwinia. We're looking forward to putting it in front of people December 15th on Steam.

We've spent some time on getting some new products into the Valve Store. Specifically, we made a T-Shirt that you can wear if you ever feel like you need to control a mechanical dog, along with a limited edition lithograph of the Citadel from Half-Life 2. Some of the new items are in very limited quantities, and are likley to sell out quickly.

And while not Steam related, Half-Life 2 for the XBOX is out in stores now. If you'd like to see what Half-Life 2 looks like in your living room, or you haven't played Half-Life 2 on the PC yet, head down to your local retailer and check it out.
Not much here that we didn't already know, but that lithograph looks mighty tempting.

There just lazy in my opinion there just lazy little shits because its not like they have one person doing everything they have a team of people doing several things. For example I don't even understand how the models have been taking this long because it doesnt take that long to make one.

you know ive always been a big supporter and loyal fan to Valve. But ive become awfully suspicious lately... somethings is going on I think. Or theyre kind of taking a break after completing the Xbox version of HL2, as they did after they completed that. I know they got other things they're working on... but come on, I think its pretty bad that there still are just those basic models for CSS. You'd think they'd be producing so much more, I know they just released DOD:S not too long ago.. but something is going on I suspect. Maybe they are working on a secret project? Iunno, but then they just pushed back the expansion Aftermath until Feb/March...

Oh well, I guess ill continue to pay their prices for the games, and play them occasionally. Ive lost interest sort of in there games... they need something new and exciting. It just seems like everything is the same, DOD:S is neat... I'll give them that =P and HDR was a great addition.

edit: sorry if im out of place to say this...

they should stop kidding themselves saying theyre going to have stuff ready at an early date. Id rather them just tell the truth and have a release date that isnt farfetched. instead of them having like 3 delays.

If Valve was lazy, we would never have had HL1 or HL2 or any of their other products. It takes a lot of effort to create the games they've made.

I know, Im just saying they shouldnt say theyre going to release something on a date (that is relatively close), and when that date comes they delay it a couple more weeks, then that day comes, then they delay it a couple more weeks.

they should just put a date that would be the worst case scenario. atleast there wont be any letdowns from delays anymore.

it really winds me up when people just assume software developers sit around doing nothing. its a stringent methodical process, you have to follow certain procedures for new features and releases. they dont just throw something together and release it the minute its finished. It then has to go through testing procedures, and a feature can be stuck between testing and bug fixing iterations for ages. i can only imagine the bitching the kids would do if a model was pushed out the doors early and the head was too big and the running animations didnt quite work (oh yeah that happenned already....)

Nighthawk: So games like Darwinia and Rag Doll Kung Fu are sapping resources from Valve and delaying improvements to games like CS:S and DoD:S? Is this what you are implying?

Yeah, remember when you fired an awp in css it would crash your game?...... Great beta testing right there !

On the plus side, a lack of decent map testing is kinda cool, I love trying to find boost spots or sneaky little places where you can get huge teamdowns.
