    Lost Coast Released

The moment that many people have been anxiously awaiting for, has finally arrived! The single-player level for Half-Life 2, The Lost Coast, was released tonight. The level showcases the latest in High-Dynamic Range lighting in the Source engine, features high resolution textures, and features other system demanding visuals.
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, a single-player level custom-created to showcase High-Dynamic Range lighting (HDR) in the Source engine, is available now to all owners of HL2. As a technology showcase, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast's system requirements are very high. During installation, Steam will prompt you if your system does not meet the recommended configuration. We hope you enjoy it.

The download is rather large, and many of you will also need to download a Steam client update that was also released. This update simply allows Half-Life 1 mods to have a custom icon in the games' list.

Update: The %account% error has been fixed i another small update.

While it wasn't a lengthy tale, it was most definately a sweet taste to be back in hl2 land again.

Personally I would have stayed for the leeches.

Yeah...I hope it runs well on my computer...regardless the fact that the only thing that passed the system requirements was my graphics card...everything else I have is like 512 MB Memory here and 2.8 Pentium 4 Processor there.

The CPU requirements (2.2GHz) exceded my actual CPU clock speed of 1.8GHz (Thank you Athlon 2500XP), but it still ran alright. I won't say that I'd increase the resolution up a lot, nor did it run smooth as silk, but I would say it was always very playable.

I'm sorry but I believe this chapter was completely pointless and can't understand what took so long to make this.

Bleh, I guess spoiler tags aren't working.

What do you mean by spoiler tags? If you mean the commentary bubble things they work great.

I heard that it was supposed to be about 300MB... But, I only downloaded maybe 90some MB. I do have DoD: Source, HL2, etc etc all currently installed as well, and a majority of the files are pulled from those existing GCF files.

                        This is the spoiler tag

It probably works on Firefox since Simplex coded this site to work with only Firefox. It's supposed to be black, and when you hover your mouse over it you can see the letters.

HDR takes a long time to get right. Reading somewhere, it said that Valve wanted to have HDR but keep the FPS fairly constant or with as little FPS impact as possible, and include proper AA support. Previous attempts at HDR had to make sacrifices (Far Cry for example).

And you know full well that if they rushed this out, people would complain about them not testing their releases before hand.

I liked it. Ran perfect on a radeon 9800, 1.25 gb ram, and 3.06 P4. All settings on high except AA and texture.
