    Phishing Alert

It's like 1994 all over again! Those of us who have Steam alerts enabled have been delivered a stark warning from the powers that be: Watch out for phishing attempts!
We've seen an increase lately in the number of unscrupulous people acquiring Steam accounts (and access to Steam games) by stealing them from other users. These people accomplish their theft by simply asking legitimate users for their login information. This practice is known as "Phishing," and is found to some extent in nearly all online account-based systems.
    [break="full message"]
By posing as a Steam official in an email message, or sometimes by pretending to be a helpful user who wants to "trade" one account for another, the thieves are often able to convince people to divulge their user name and password.

We know how frustrating it is to have your account stolen. As much as we can, we want to put a stop to this practice. To do that, we need your help — please keep the following in mind:

Your Steam ID and password are confidential information. A Valve employee will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or email message. Do not respond to any message that asks for your password. Here is some more information about protecting your account.

    In the meantime, happy gaming.
    Another Phish reference.

Email me your steam account name and password to iason@thisislegitforsure.com and I'll check if your account has been stolen or not.

Getting someones account wont get you anywhere if you dont have their email. So really the issue is, keeping your email safe, not your steam account.

                  Two things.

First of all, the majority of the internet is STUPID. The majority of humankind is. We really need to be culled.

Secondly, a technical question out of curiosity. How is phishing illegal? The only thing I can think of would be masquerading as like the company your account is with, that'd be illegal. But if you simply TRICK someone into giving you their password?

"Hey, MSN Messenger has a built-in protection for passwords"

"You can't give them, see: ***** that was my password"

"It looks like asterisks to you, doesn't it?"

                  'Yeah'

                  "Type your password and see"

                  'stephanie373'

                  "See? Your password is stephanie373"

'Omg how do you know my password??? You tricked me!'

"No see I just copied and pasted it, it looks like asterisks to me"

                  'Oh okay'

And yes, there are people THAT stupid out there.

bash.org is one of the oldest sites on the internet, the least you can do is give credit where it's due.

I've _lost_ a box. Literally. I can ping it, but I don't know where it is in my apartment.

Never heard of it. Someone else told me that little story once and I remembered it is all, she didn't say where she got it from.
