I too refuse to play CSS untill Valve makes it run on my shit computer. Why should I have to upgrade my computer to play?!?!?!?! FUCK YOU VALVE!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you can use the word "heimlich maneuver" anymore.

I heard from someone that since that Heimlich guy died or something, you can't use that name anymore. You can use other words like abdominal thrust.

The annoying thing is though, I have a really high-end PC (no offense to you, let's just say mine's more then just a bit better than yours), yet I get barely 50FPS most of the time on high settings, and only 10FPS or so more then that on medium settings (and I'll be damned if I'm gonna insult my 6800GT by making it run on low settings). I'll give CS:S the occasional boot, but I don't see why anyone should play it like people play 1.6 when a very high-end machine struggles to hit even just 60FPS on it on medium settings. Maybe it's CS:S, maybe it's Steam, I don't know which. Either way, something can and must be done.

My computer isnt shit, my computer is mid range. I use the settings that CSS reccomends, and even when I lower them it still lags and my FPS is unstable.

I had bought a 9600pro 2 years ago waiting for Source games. The time came, Source was delayed again and again, so I sold my 9600pro. Back to my Gf4 mx440, Source was ready. Bought HL2, it ran ok on my GF4 MX440 (and my XP1700+@2800+), but I was sure missing the eye candy, and CS:S was ugly and slow.



Found a great deal and bought my A64 3000+ (OCED @3800+) and a mid range 6600GT (@550/1150). I have to play CS:S @ 800x600 everything turned off / or lower settings available, in order to play with better fps.



And it's not that smooth on the firefights.



Having played CS:S on a XP1700, 1800, 2400, 2700 and 2800, with 9600PRO and MX440 on every possible settings, and on a A64 3800+ with a MX440 and a GF6600GT, I´m really convinced that it's time for code optmization.



It's not that beautiful to be so slow... C'mon, a GF6600GT on a A64 3800+... 800x600 lowest settings? Better go back to 1.6.

It seems like every other update drops my fps a bit on all maps.

I don't want to feel like an asshole for calling you an idiot, but you're an idiot. If you were to upgrade your ram to 768 or 1024, you could play at 1024x768 on HIGH settings WITH Antialiasing.

You don't understand man, it's Valves problem not his. 4 years ago his computer was top of the line and asking him to upgrade is just unreasonable! YOU BETTER FIX THIS GAME VALVE!!!!!

Your computer isn't mid range... everything in it is more than a few years old on top of having half the ram of most mid range gaming comps today.

Ok... for you noobs out there that think you know how to fix everything by adding another 256 or 512mb stick:



I've tried CS:S with 512, 768 and 1024 mb. The in game performance is about the same. The only thing that changes is the loading and exiting times. So please shut up.



And a 1.8GHz AXP (2500+ if its a Barton) with 512mb and a 9800PRO should be ok to run the game in the medium settings at least...

I'm on an AMD 2500 (1.83GHz clock), 1024MB of RAM, and a GeForce 6800GT. I can run the game with very playable framerates with everything on high and various levels of AA and AF (Usually 2xAA and 4xAF I believe).



I believe something else is wrong on your system.

I get like 20-40 fps on my 9800 pro with the current ati drivers, switched to 4.12 and it runs at 80-100 now.. maybe its the drivers?

also.. computerspecs dont mean shit all with the way some people install shit on their computers. or the way they dont defrag, or a billion other reasons a 3ghz computer can post the same bench and a 1ghz computer (more detailed tech specs, cooling, os, etc etc etc)
