I tend to agree with this 'American know it all' on cs_siege, it's a sucky map.. The guy who made it (RIP) also said it was more of a test map for CS then a real proper map.. But for some unknown reason it got popular and they kept it in.. It's still a sucky extremly unbalanced map (which goes for almost all hostage maps bassicly, that's probably also the reason only bomb maps are played in league's etc)..

And the CS:S prodigy screenies in this Amped comparison article are ugly low detail ones.. Why didn't they use high detail (textures) ones?

Personally I don't see an improvement in the gameplay of Prodigy in Source. If anything I think its become more lopsided toward the CTs. It is damn near impossible to rush the long hall now. Seems like a lot of new awp positions have been created for the ct at their end of the hallway.

I think siege is a great map.. and could be better balanced by creating a second enterance into T spawn area, from the otherside, outside of the garage. This would make the Ts not only camp garage, but have to protect another area as well. Someone recently redid this map for source, but it didn't look any better than the original, and possibly much worse (instead of mountains behind CT spawn, it was just a flat wall textured to look like a cliff)... valve should really spend some time redoing all the great old maps, siege, train, oilrig, INFERNO, etc.

One thing I've found is that people who have played CS for longer seem to enjoy siege a bit more. Maybe nostalgia or just that it's gameplay is simliar to cs_ maps that people used to play quite often (docks to name one)
I started playing back in beta 6.. something at a neighbors house, and I can't say I ever really enjoyed the cs_ maps. But that's just me.
PS when you say it sux, you're kind of ripping on a dead dude
Yeah I had forgotten about that. I don't mean any disrespect, I just really can't stand the map.
PSS the APC was cool (if gimmicky) when it was in siege, it would be cool to see it again; jeepathon would be cool converted to source too :)
I agree that both maps would be cool to look at and play around with, but with Valve having what seems like limited time to map/convert maps, I'd much rather them do some good ones first, and then the less serious gimmick ones later.

It just seems strange to give maps like nuke and inferno a backseat to.. siege.

That's strange that you call ME a know it all, when you're assuming I played pong in the first place?

Thanks for incorrectly classifying me as some 'American Pride' nationalist, because I'm definitely far from it.

Why are maps that are unbalanced dismissed? I like a couple lopsided maps, they're a change of pace. Rushing the T's from multiple entrances on assault is a challenge, and an achievement when you get in, even moreso if you can get the hosties out. I don't need every map to have perfectly timed choke points.

Oddly enough prodigy slants even more in CT favor in Source. Mostly because of that lower hall can become a sniping death trap, escpecially in pubs where 4-6 CT's can all set up and take shots at will.

Also have the feel that dust also slid a little more toward favoring CT's. Has more to do with rushing left down the hall, can't seem to find a good bounce to get flashes and nades out into the open to slow or deter he CT's.

I still love rotterdam and thunder. They weren't the best-balanced maps (and rotterdam would need to be brightened quite a bit), but they are insanely fun (and as peagle so astutely pointed out, not all maps have to be perfectly balanced, as challenge and fun-factor do matter too; CS is a game after all). There's about a million classic maps that I'd love to see remade, but those are near the top of the list. Other favorites include backalley, train, militia, tundra and oilrig (assassination maps are fun now and then, and oilrig would be the shit in Source), and I have to admit that I still miss siege. I fully agree that it's unbalanced and the gameplay can suck. But for fun and nostalgia, it doesn't get any better than siege. I have such fond memories of hiding out in the house being stalked by 5 Ts, or flashing the parking garage ramp and rushing right into the entire terrorist team. Not to mention hilarious all-AWP battles between the ramp and the little rock steps on CT side. I don't think the APC should be back (except as a static prop), but with a few changes and altered pathways, siege could be great fun again. It certainly wouldn't be a professionally competetive map, but I think a whole new generation of CS players could fall in love with it like I did back in the day.

how about factoring in CZ remade prodigy too. subtle layout differences, cleaner graphics. same great playability.

oh and ffs, use antialiasing when making screenshots. 21st century guys...

i agree, thats part of what i ment when i was talking about the "unique gameplay" of siege.

and if you absolutely cant stand the thought of siege, fine, how about as_highrise? ooor, cs_747

Highrise? No, only because it's an as_ map. 747? It's not THAT bad I guess, but why do you want to do these mediocre maps when there are great maps that havn't been done?
