Its all in who you pick to admin for you. Adminabusers don't last long on our server. Although they do abuse each other sometimes.

So really, how does this benefit the player at all, or even the admin? The rcon commands are more than enough to govern your server, and the admin mod-like addons do nothing for me except make it easier for admins to mess with my config when they get killed three rounds in a row.

I guess it's pretty good news for those of you that enjoy WC3 and Superhero mods, but for the majority of us.. it just means more neon letters popping up on our screen telling us the obvious. I realize that making sure you are listed on the /top15 of a server means a whole lot to some people, but atleast give us a way to turn off the annoyances.

Giving RCON to many different people places a huge risk of something to go wrong with your server.

RCON is very easy to use and all you ever need, however the lack of being able to set certian levels of RCON control is why mods such as AdminMod, AMX and AMX MOD X were created, which now SourceMod will be out within the coming 2005 year.

Most quality servers run mods and the players dont know it, I tend to find a good server just one that has mod for basic adminstration, maybe end of round stats such as "most distruptive" and that be it, no "/rank" or things. Simple hud message.

now, if this leads to WC3/Superhero type mods, then i dont think it is a very good idea. cs wasnt made to be played like that. go make your own mod, dont mix it with normal servers.

Dont be ignorant, of course its going to lead to other mods such as war3/superhero.

If CS wasnt made to be played like that then HL wouldnt have allowed people to create mods in the first place. If that happened, then I doubt we would even be discussing CS right now, remember, CS is a mod of HL also.

No one can force anyone to "mix" anything, its a community involement and if a server admin chooses to install this mod or that mod on his/her server then you cant really complain because you dont own the server now do you?

Got a problem with mods then just dont run those plugins, run your own server and manage it how you want it to be managed.

There are two problems with rcon.

First, it's insecure... trivial network sniffing (especially on wireless) leaves your server totally open. Second, there's no permissions... whoever has it, has unlimited to access to the server console. From the point of view of a system administrator, this is not a great idea.

So it's very good that people are making systems for access control. That's The Right Way to do it.

As for things like WC3, I was never a fan of them myself (I don't even like CSDM too much), but they are always good for learning how to design gameplay and basic game programming.

I prefer to let people explore the potential of creativity, as they need it, rather than locking them down to basics. Otherwise, how would more advanced things develop? My goal with SM is to provide a development environment that can either satisfy a simple need or provide something capable of far greater things.

O yeah :) Come join me on my server and you WILL NOT BE ABUSED! I'm using this, so I don't have to give rcon out to the clan guys and just allow them simple stuff and nice plugins that should be coming. For admin abuse... I don't know what you do, but just be nice in the server and you wouldn't be abused... My server runs a good clean fun server @ 66.93.34.105:27015 yet at the sametime we do enforce basic ruins to keep it fun. All my admins have had training on the commands and what to do, to keep the fun rolling. But, thats really off comment.

SourceMod is a great mod for server administrators that run either Windows or Linux. I must say Linux is getting baout 1% support on the forums for plugins and they're looking for more people to help port windows stuff to linux and other way around. But for all you people having to give out rcon or not even giving out administration access to your players, this will allow you greater ease on watching your admins and keep players in line and not having them talk trash and other stuff.

while it is obvious that more 12 year olds play cs... but that is mostly affected by the sheer number of people who play cs

the percentage of people who are at the maturity level of a 12 year old on the other hand.. there may be more immature players per capita in tfc than in cs

i wouldn't be surprised either way if the general public of either game was less or more mature than the other

then again, we are looking at a computer game.. (i hate to play that card) which means that you are going to encounter a variety of different players no matter what.. so let's just drop it

Ive played both for a long time and from my experience CS has many more immature players compared to TFC. DOD is even better though, infact I hardly ever come across a moron in DOD.
