Yes they probably did say it would be released when it was released on the street. But what's the point of causing all of the confusion by releasing it 1-3 days earlier. Valve will wait it out.Comment

There was no code released in the SDK. The only things released were documents, Hammer, and a model viewer. The code will be released a week or 2 after hl2 is released. Come to your senses, why would they release the game code before the game was released?Comment

No... It will use content servers from Steam, which can be a local item installed onto the computer. It uses steam to manage the account and games thats all I think is what Valve is doing.Comment

I work at a big retail chain (it rhymes with gall-heart), take a guess at what I'm refering to...Anyway we got copies of Half-life 2 today (Friday), and had them out on the shelf! I came in at 4 pm and saw them and was like "Wait a minute!" I took them off the shelf and told my manager, "We can't sell these yet!" He told me the software vendor said we could. So I put them back, made a sticker for $54.88 and let it be. I tried to sell one to a friend, and the register spit back "Sale not allowed" Which only comes up on items that are on recall, or before the street date (release date). So I was like "I told you! I'm not going to jail for this!" And once again pulled them all off the shelf. So we have them but cannot sell them yet. I don't know the street date because its not listed anywhere. We will just wait until we get the ok to sell them. lol when I saw them I was like "whats rizzuhs phone number?" I called our software vendor and left a voicemail to ask if they are really supposed to be out and available for sale. She will probably have an answer by tomorrow when I come in. Anyway I wrote all this to let you know it will be available soon, I just don't know how soon!appended @ [time="1100322807"]
Oh and btw while I was hugging all the copies of HL2
I read the box (which is surprisingly plain) and on the back it says it comes with cs:source, which you prob all knew anyway. We didn't have any special editions, just the plain-old regular versions. And no don't ask if I will sell you any early, not only will I be fired, but face up to 20k in fines as well as jail time. I will not get raped for your dumb fanboy-azz self.

All best buys (all 650 stores) with copies of Half Life 2 were ordered at 8:00am this morning to stock store shelves with Half Life 2.
