I read this book once where this guy killed people. and I decided I wanted to be like him and kill people too.

The media is retarded they blame a murder on a video game. wow your cool. I remember back in columbine, they blamed it on Doom 2. I was playing it then and my grandparents made me uninstall it. How stupid. The media always pretends they know nothing. Example unrelated: this is about paintball. "There is a new sport sweeing the country where children from all ages join together and try to kill their enemie by shooting gel filled balls that are gooey at speeds up to 300FPS. is this safe for your child? you decide" They are dumb as shit

the idea of wearing "black fatigues, balaclava and ski goggles" is not something unique to Counter-Strike and neither is firing a gun.
Very true...I can name about 6 games that have characters which fit that description...none of them CounterSrike!!!

Frikken Media...the only thing CS should be blamed for is excessive name calling (omg n00b) lol

I hate it when this happens. Why the hell do they have to blame violence in games? Specifically, why counter-strike? There's violence everywhere, there's violence in the news, violence in movies, violence in more video games than I would be able to count.

How about blaming the idiots that actually kill someone because they can't tell the difference between entertainment and real life, or the parents that don't give them a sliver of guidance. These fucks deserve life in jail. Now that I think about it, they're probably using counter-strike as a defense, god... I hope they don't get away with this shit just because they're blaming a VIDEO GAME for what they did. That would make me lose all faith in humanity.

lol u all say the same thing, did u ever think that he did get the idea from cs? maybe he doesnt play other games, maybe cs sticks in his head the most, and maybe he really did want to act it out, just because u all love this game too much an think its your innocent cs, doesnt mean it isnt the inspiration this guy needed

No, what I'm saying is any normal person should be able to differentiate a video game from real life, just like they should be able to differentiate a violent movie from real life, anybody that can't BELONGS in jail. If CS was trully his only inspiration he would have joined to army to kill some terrorists :P

thats right... blame videogames... don't blame the people who gave them access to the guns or dont blame their parents for rasing them to be murderers... blame the videogames...

              thats hilarious

Yes...but again, this brings up the whole parents issue. If the parents don't give a shit about what the kids are doing and/or how they are interpreting these things, then major problems will arise...

but I find that anything can influence me

to be upset, and that is really the issue. Video games may affect

your basic mental reaction to getting pissed off, but it doesn't

change the extent of your actions while pissed off. To kill

someone or act out violently, you have to be angry to a degree at

which you aren't mentally stable or you must have just been born

"a cold hard killer." Video games don't affect either

one of those scenario's, the same as hard rock or going shooting.

Video games don't desensitize you anymore than MTV or the movies

The only thing arguably that video games do (like hard rock or

rap) is get you on emotional high that you might carry through to

taking some action you wouldn't normally do (essentially get you

angry). But this is no different than a kid who pushes you on the

playground, it does make you angry, but the extent to which you let that affect you

is not the fault of that which caused you to be angry. It is the

fault of the undiscipline in your behaviour that allows you to

                    take extreme action.

Keep in mind that there are, as Shadow stated before, cases in which CS has influenced people to do this, but in my honest opinion I think you should look at more than one side of the case:

                      a) have these persons been influenced by CS and why is that? Can it perhaps be fixed without taking the fun out of the game?

                      b) have these persons been influenced by other sources, such as the news? Let's face it these aren't very happy times with all the suicide attacks and terrorism.

                      c) do these people have phsychotraumatic experiences and are those in any way linked with Counter-Strike?

                      d) would another violent video game (let's say America's Army. That's a VIOLENT GAME!) have had the same effect?

oh and I used to play CS, now I play TS and DoD. Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 too. I'm a vegetarian and wouldn't hurt a fly unless attacked.

Maybe the real blame lies with the FUCKING MORONS who committed the crime.

It's just amazing, the excuses pro-bono australian public defenders come up with. A lesson to learn: never allow a court appointed lawyer to defend you in an Australian murder trial.

It would be more amazing if this unique defense works.

but my god, how they can blame CS on that is fucking ridiculous.

If the murderers ran around naked, then "A mod for Counter Strike" would be blamed :P
