    Half-Life 2 at the Arcades

According to a recent GameSpot news piece, Valve Software is teaming up with Taito to release Half-Life 2 in the arcades in the Summer of 2005. The game will run on Taito's new arcade hardware dubbed TypeX.
Taito's arcade release of Half-Life 2 will be a customized version of the upcoming PC release. Currently, three modes have been announced. You can enjoy the game alone in the story mode, or you can team up with players in other arcades, via network connection, to play cooperatively. And, of course, there's a versus mode where you can fight against players in other arcades as well. Furthermore, you'll be able to enjoy the game on a wide screen and in 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound.
While it sounds like an interesting idea, only time will tell how well a PC first person shooter can hold up in an arcade environment.

It would be nice to see more of the newer games in arcades. Perhaps they will reform into more modern arcades, although the classics are always fun to play.

Stick a light-gun on it and make it move automatically and you have a potential hit

Strange. It doesn't ususally work out like this. Companies such as Sega, Namco, Konami etc... Usually release their games on arcade machines first, then they port them to console (It's always been like this since the days of Genesis/SNES). It's strange how HL2 is now going to be an arcade game aswell as a PC title. But hey, I guess it will be cool.

I wonder what the controls will be like on this new arcade system. Will it have a physical gun that you use to shoot at aliens on the screen, or will it have some type of joysick interface?

It will be interesting to see how this turns out...

Yea Im kinda interested how the controls will turn out and if there will be a gun to hold onto and so on. Kinda sucks that its going to be coop in the arcades but who knows we might get that on the PC later on down the road.

EDIT: Oh yea whats that about fighting other players?? Thought that there wasnt going to be a HL² multiplayer???

Knowing Valve, they will probably either 1) have no multiplayer or 2) use cs:s

Reminds me of Counter-Strike: NEO released in Tokyo.

thats stupid. what kind of a fucking idiot pay money to stay there at arcade for over MINIMUM 20 hours of playing.

                          1: waste of time

                          2: waste of money

                          3: probably will cost to finish the game x3 the money of the game's original price. ( $50 · 3 = $150 )

just speculations, but I put Lincoln on it that it will actually come true.

A single player storyline like HL2 at an arcade? Seems... strange....

Arrr, Namco would of been acceptable or even Sega, but Taito!?!??!!?!?!?/11///1/1slashone. Puzzle Bobble is NOT a classic in my oppinion.
