    Greg Coomer Interview

WhUtDuFuK.com has interviewed Greg Coomer from Valve Software, who recently visited Japan for TGS 2004 - where Half-Life 2 was featured. In the brief, yet interesting interview, Mr. Coomer has revealed some new nuggets regarding the much anticipated HL2:
Greg also clued me in to one of the features of HL2 which hasn't been shown off yet. This is the Bird AI found in the game. Adrian Finol spent a considerable amount of time creating realistic birds for the Half-Life 2 engine. They fly and react to their environment just as a bird in the real world would. I recall from my playtest at VALVe birds flying off of a cliff in one area of the game. I didn't realize they were there until I made noise and they flew away. It was quite amazing to say the least.

Oh I' m so happy they took the time to do that, it's so worth the wait.

And can you step on dog's crap too ? Cause you know it makes the game more realistic and it's such a COOL functionality.

it would be cool if CS SOURCE has birds flying around a tree or something, instead of just ambient sounds.

Uhm, why is the birds thing so surprising? I don't think I've ever played a game where the birds don't fly away when you get too close to them. Whoever did that interview or whatever hasn't played that many (if any?) games in his lifetime if he thinks that the whole birds thing is part of some "ultra-AI".

That or HL2 sucks and he doesn't have any better to talk about.

Anyway, yeah it's pretty cool but they should spend more time on the AI of monsters IMHO instead of worrying about birds.
