I think an offical Gold announcement is being held back until they can offically release it through steam.

So they can say something along the lines of - hl2 gone gold play instantly through steam now! etc etc..

They can release via Steam the moment the game is on store shelves, not before. So a gold announcement then would be rather useless as it'd be ready to buy and play at that point.

Atleast I wish I was that excited... I spent all my excitement for this game Sept. 30, 2003..... My current machine won't even run HL2 and the Nforce4 SLI boards aren't even out so whoopdee doo..

Except CSN isn't giving a release date, they're saying it's gold.

Under normal circumstances, VU would have an official announcement, possibly with a release date, but Valve and VU's relationship is anything but normal.

Don't get your hopes up till vu conforms that hl2 has gone gold to the press or else you my be disappointed.Let's hope that it has gone gold or will be soon.
