source doesn't suck in gameplay, cept for the retarded nade physics. what sucks is the maps and graphics. poor bumpmapping, poor cubemapping (same on one EVERY texture, wtf?!?), and the unacceptable reuse of old textures. on havana, the hanging clothes should NOT be static 1.6 textures. the hl2 engine is perfectly capable of rendering realtime fabric and stuff that blows in the wind. and it's CERTAINLY capable of rendering bumpmapping that makes sense. oh, and the models need help.

That's all fine and I agree a bit.. But I think you also have to take into account CS:S is mainly a online game.. To much detail and physics etc would probably turn it into another Doom3, meaning 4 player max and broadband only MP game..

Hrrmm.. it probably should be all those things. It runs like crap. Even with the latest x800t card and latest cpu, the game dips down into the 30s rather often. Thats unacceptable.

To be honest, all of these reviews are pretty boring.

If you used Firefox and it's live RSS feed, you wouldn't have to bother hitting refresh all the time. ^____^

i have no qualms with the physics. actually, i think the nade effects on dead bodies should be toned down a bit for realism's sake. however, the client side graphics detail has NOTHING to do with online gameplay. if your rig can handle full omgawesome detail, then jack it up. if it can't, or it's too choppy for you to play well, turn it down. online games need not cater to crappy computers.

                    i've seen x800's getting 30 fps.

                    nubbins, *sigh*

There is no such thing as a magic way to suddenly "optimize" a game for use with bump-mapping and such.

Personally, looking at HL2 in comparison to Far Cry, Tenebrae and DooM 3, Valve did a VERY good job of keeping HL2 up-to-date AND running well on most people's computers.

Combat games are not all about graphics. Halo for example has very good graphics, but when you play online the gameplay isnt all to good, you get bored of playing it fast. Cs doesnt have the best graphics but the gameplay is great, which matters most. If you're a real gamer you know everything doesnt depend on the graphic, it depends on the gameplay.

true dat, server client traffic should never take into account silly things like the angle of someone's g-string swaying in the wind in havana or some wine bottle on the ground that players clip through.

I have no idea what all of you people talking about x800's getting 30fps are on, but i sure as hell want some. I have an x800XT PE and on average i get about 80fps and it never drops below 40. Maybe their card is bottlenecked or they have a poor Internet connection.

Actually i enjoy playing CS:CZ online more than CS:Source. Same maps, mostly the the same gameplay; but additional graphics and physics improvements. I mean, come on, we don't need those bottles, watermelons, buckets etc to screw up the fps. They don't have any use in the current gameplay. Even the barrels don't have that type of use. We must have an option to turn at least the needless bottles etc off.

Player models look and act like improved beta 7.1 models. The worst thing about 'em is that you cant see what weapon your opponent is firing, what movement he's actually doing. And those weapon and player models drop the fps significantly. We urgently need some low detailed models.

CS:S don't seem as a final release at all. The situation seems just like Valve has decided to make HL2 open for purchasing immediately due to their current issues with Vivendi. And they have released CS:S just for making pre-buying HL2 more charming. Besides all the bugs, we don't even have a choice to select the player model class. It's so obvious that it hasn't been ready yet.
