asspennies wrote..Not everyone is a "omg cs pwnz" kind of person. HLDM would be something better, CS for 5 years is a little too much. HLDM for hl2 would be even better than it was on the hl1 engine and people want to play it. Oh cmon, you wouldn't want to pick rizzuh up with a physgun throwing him 100 feet in the air in an online deathmatch? If VALVe isn't making a DM, someone else will and will get a lot of attention. I sort of think it was a little dull of valve to not make HL2DM after what, 4+ years of progress on half-life 2?
I so don't get this. At all. The original Half-Life was CRITICIZED for not having anything other than Standard DM when it was first released. Now HL2 is being criticized for not including it?

Note: Just because the in-game assets were lacking and low-res does NOT mean the engine was lackluster.
For the record, DooM 3 has a VERY powerful engine. DooM 3, as they had said before, touched only the tip of the iceberg.
id has always been about the engines and technology; DooM 3 doesn't change that fact at all.
And of course, just because you thought it was a shite game doesn't mean others can't enjoy it. It's rather grating to see people pass it off as fact, when clearly others have their own view of it...Comment

I hated Doom3's graphics. It was the most ugliest looking piece of dogshit i've ever seen. It may be just my opinion, but i think HL2's overall graphics are much more polished, detailed, and more realistic that doom3. Sure, doom3 does lighting and all that other junk in real-time and actually physically maps all textures versus HL2's pre-drawn textures, what do they have to show for it? A completely ugly game that makes walls, people and demons look completely plastic and unrealistic. GOD i was disappointed in Doom3...and I WAS the BIGGEST FUCKIN DOOM3 FAN!!! Half-Life Two is a fuckin Beautiful game graphically, and i'm sure it will also be in the aspects of gameplay, story, and immersiveness. Fuck Doom. End of Discussion
By the way, the Half Life 2 Bink videos were much more entertaining than playing doom3. Yes, I sincerely believe that.Comment

I guess id Software needed John Carmack to hang around more than 50 hours a week (since he's way more into the Armadillo Aerospace project in hopes to win big bucks by literally rushing their asses into space before anyone else). To be honest, I actually figured id Software would be able to make a successful game happen after John Carmack made the engine, so having Carmack being on the lead design role would be rather pointless (especially since he finds ragdoll physics to be impractical). Who would've thought the rest of the team wanted to re-do Doom rather than make a bigger sequel? Was the storyline for Doom I & II really that bad in their eyes?
And as for releasing HL2 now... To convince VALVe to unlock HL2 on Steam (as well as delivering the rest of the game), you would need to hire the best of the best lawyers to magically legally change the contract agreement in order to allow VALVe to give you the game without having a huge lawsuit on their asses (besides, they're already busy with the current lawsuits). The game is more or less finished. It's now up to Vivendi Universal to decide what to do with it (similar to how VU would not release CS:CZ until all language versions were done)... Not to mention who will win the court cases. I mean, business-wise, what kind of ridiculous benefits do VALVe/Vivendi Universal get for delaying a game? Do they somehow earn money without getting anything from their customers? At this point, what we do know is that VALVe is surprisingly legally allowed to release the game to the media, but VU is also legally allowed to not publish the game for up to six months (they can make up any bullcrap reason). If VU is willing to depend on the rest of their line-up to gain enough profits, then VALVe has a disadvantage here, and so will we (unless anywhere from 1 day to half a year means nothing to you).Comment

Worth every bit. Understand that this comes from a collective, objective point of view. Not everyone shares the same views as the few in the magazine.
I'll wait until a mag more trustworthy, well to me at least, reviews it. Or till i play it my self. I dont trust pcgamer at all not since they gave outcast 90%Comment

Not to attack HL or HL2 but there is a game that holds the PC GAMER review record at 98%(HL 1 & 2 right behind it). It was rated a number of years ago, the names right on the tip of my tongue. I think its listed in their last anniversary issue.
........ Sid Meier's ALPHA CENTAURI in April of 99. THATS THE NAME! anyway back to HL.Comment

I've only heard one person say that half-life 2 had no MP, and that was Waldo on steam forums here
And according to him, not even hl:s will have mp..
From what I read, I don't think hl:s will be that great at all, and hopefully not a waste of time.Comment

Ummm yes the ORIGIONAL Source Code was stolen.
I think HL2 should get 90% due to codes got stolen and I can't wait to see how many hax on multiplayer
If you payed any attention to the huge scandle you will find VALVe stated they had to REVISE and REMAKE the Source Code. There shouldn't be a problem with HL2 and Hacks right away.
But like anything there will eventualy be scripts to alter the game code.Comment

Look I like HL2 as much as anyone else, but i'm sick of ID bashing. here's the straight shit, all they did, was remake doom as if they had current technology back in 92 or whenever they originally made it. If you didn't like the original doom, I have no idea why you would like the new one, it's basically a retro game with a modern engine, if you expected the best story ever, your dumb to begin with. Hl2 has a much more balanced rendering engine, but if we had computers with enough power, you could do HL2 with the doom3 engine and it would look 20x better, I've been playing CS:S for a while now and the graphics are awesome, but I think it has more to do with the Art team at valve vs the art team at ID, they both have completely different styles, they really shouldn't even be compared as the game aren't even in the same FPS genre. That said, I loved D3 and I look forward to HL2 even though it should have come out years ago.Comment

Theres a review for HL2, and STILL NO RELEASE DATE SET?!?!?!?! I know what Cliff is thinking to himself "Oh yeah, just when all those HL2 fans think the game is gonna be delayed for another month, BOOM! I'll come out saying the game is gonna be released in 3 days."
This isn't the 2nd coming of Christ, this is a fricken videogame!!! So why can't VALVe just set a release date allready!?Comment
