Nice update, i'd love to see some improvements on the ATI 9800pro 128mbs fps droping low on DX9.0c. Sometimes i get over 200, and with alot of people around it dips to about 30-35. Frustrating to say the least for such a great card.=/

Pretty good update here. A little too large for my tastes (considering not everything was listed here :P ), but it did seem to make my gameplay a bit smoother overall.

Also it would be a great improvement none the less because the Hardware Surveys clearly shows that the 9800pro is the most popular and most used card for CSS.

This update proves to be around 500MB.

Many people, such as myself, are confused as to why, when it's basically a bug fixing update..

Maybe a disguised preload? Head on over to www.halflife2.net and check out a game that VALVe and HL2.net forum posters played with each other. It was pretty cool.

I think they already have bump mapping implemented already. Just look at the stone walls of the stress test and the tiles of de_dust

This is actually a collision detection bug. If you walk next to a wall turned slightly into it (so you are running into it but still moving forward) you get the same effect.
Atleast it stops you walked faster like in the HL engine.

Download Time: Six hundred minutes and counting.

I'm hoping that goes down soon.

Of the 928megs only 866 are in use, of this 614megs is of materials, in there are all the materials for all of the other maps eg: cd_office, de_cbble etc, not just de_dust. There are no bsp files for the additional maps.

I think this is a preload, but not of half-life 2, it would not make sense for Beta testers to redownload CS:S when it is released, therefore they are adding the content now. My guess they would have been hoping to preload additional HL2 content this week, but with no gold yet, they are utilizing the the time and bandwidth to get more CS content out.
The above HL2.net post seems to be a likely explaination for such a big update. If HL2 doesn't go Gold soon, this could also be a preload of sorts for an important update to the beta. For example, hostage maps. HL2 is probably a few weeks away and we haven't tested any AI yet. Which is odd, because AI is suppose to be a important part of the Source Engine.

It's harder to kill again, or maybe it's just me. But great update...
