    What happened to your site.....
It fell into disarray due to real life commitments and declining lack of interest in games in general. To give you an example, I purchased DOOM3 the day it came out and I havent even finished it yet.

There's alot of backend stuff with the site I'm unhappy about how it works and I've just been putting it off.

I gave CS:S a try for a few hours the other day and it's got my interest back up again, so I'll be doing a update soon.

you didn't bother to try that before you posted, did you?
    Actually, I did.

You have to associate the .GCF's with GCFScrape for it to work.

The 1 gig hl2 file is filled with about 7900 .VMT and .VTF files, a few text files, and a creepy picture of the gman.

Valve isnt putting HL2 on Steam for convenience, theyre doing it for money.

I wonder if Viv would be pissed if they made HL2 available on Steam a week earlier than a store release

"No purchase is required to pre-load HL2, but is required to activate the game. Purchase options will be released soon"

why dont they realese the purchase options now? to see if it will be worthwhile to preload in the first place! for example if it costs substantially less to purchase over steam, i might consider preloading. otherwise, having a solid CD as backup for a similar price would be wiser.

and do people who purchased HL1 get some sort of discount :p

How exactly are they making money from preloading?

              Did I say preloading? I said HL2.

Surely selling the game straight through Steam means no publisher which means more moola.

                    Except:

                    1) some people won't give their credit card info to steam.

                    2) most regular folks will just buy it in a shop

Should provide enough sales to vivendi

Some guy posted an oversized pic to prove he got into the gcf's.

(I always wanted to make a summup post like this)

I get the same error mentioned earlier about not being able to map the gcf to memory.

I can though open all the other GCFs in the folder successfully.

updating your game very easy but then again we keep getting connection errors if valve is going to let people pre-load or update ther games over steam.... which theres no other way to update Half-Life Mods (right now)... They need more bandwidth ither that or i do... lol im on Rogers High Speed Internet one of the faster ISP's in Canada

Oh sorry, I misread your post.

Selling the game through steam also saves the cost of packaging/CDs/manuals etc. so they can sell it cheaper.

The problem is, he doesn't and acts like a dick everytime there's a newspost including cs and valve. I don't even see anyone freaking out to that extent anyway, you guys are totally over exaggerating our reaction to the preload.
