Hah, lol. Well, as far as I know, he did manage to get a lot of accounts disabled because of that CS:CZ credit card fraud trick.

I don't really see the point of (buying) games online, it takes a long time and you don't have a room full of boxes

whatever you're thinking it's not going to happen... the only thing that's gonna be in the gcf is textures, sounds etc so no cracked version of hl2 for you

question, will a bought boxed copy of HL2 will be intergrated with steam or it will be just outsider like Hl1 boxed copy was to steam?
i think that when you start the setup from the cd, it will first ask you if you have a steam account. if you don't it will install steam, if you do, it will install the necessary half-life 2 files.

awwww, can't open it with gcf extractor

The main advantage with buying hl2 on steam is that you get hl2 as soon as its released in stores. There won't be any need to run to your local software retailer to check for the game which might not even be in stock.

...can you still pre-load if your buying it boxed? o.o (I mean I know you can pre-load, but when you get the boxed version will it matter if you still have the pre-loaded files?)

didn't they say a while ago that it would be released on steam before in stores?

There are alot of advantages with purchasing with steam such as a discount on the retail prices and not having to insert cds to play. I will buy hl2 retail though, I have a slow connection and i like to collect games and put them on cd-racks.

I don't think they ever stated that in any press release or forum post.

I think they'll do what they did with Condition Zero. If you bought the game from the store, you installed it just like Counter-Strike. Then if you wanted to play online you had to enter in your CD-Key on Steam. (That is, if I remember correctly)

Was this directed at me? If so it's because I want to box personally.. not the online purchase. :)

I figured they would let your purchase from steam.

Which program are you using to extract the GCF? Try using Nem's GCFScape.
