I really cant believe how many people are complaining about the source beta and making predictions on CS:s being sucky off what they have seen. I mean have any of these people played a beta before? Did any of you try the Doom 3 alpha or beta and then actually compare them to Doom 3 final release? At least CS:s is playable online etc whereas the doom 3 beta was a right mess and performance on it was shocking (unless you tweaked the configs like mad which you prolly had to do to make even the controls work as you wanted - hell you couldnt even start the demo from the menu on D3, you had to use the bloody console otherwise it would do nothing)

As for those people who say "i get low fps in source but i got high fps in condition zero so it doesnt make sense......I have an S3 trio blah blah blah" you really need to get your heads read or stop using daddys non gaming pc and go buy yourself one that is designed to run games like these.

Hmmm a back to school special by CSN? last thing we need in CS is more damn kids, i wish theyd put an age restriction on it or something.

That's funny because Doom 3 had neither an Alpha or a Beta. Oh, you're referring to the illegal leaked demo version that came from an E3 kiosk? It's funny because that version of the game wasn't even meant to be played, and you shouldn't have even had it. You're the type of person that downloaded the HL2 leaked copy and called it a beta eh?

how do i get console to open in cs:s ... someone plz help. ~ is not doing anything.
It's in the options somewhere, activate "show developer console."

CS:S is actually quite fun; it's fun to shoot barrels and even when I can get my crosshair over them people. And despite my Athlon 1800 and Radeon 8500 it typically runs well, giving me usually around 30-40fps at 1152x864. The only major problem I have with this beta is taht the only map is Dust, and Dust has a tendency to get very boring very fast.

I will pretend you have been living in a cave for the past few weeks and politely answer your question. You have to have either a ATI voucher or a licensed copy of Condition Zero. At that point, you may restart Steam and the option to download it will appear.

help! whenever i try to join a server by clicking 'servers' no servers pop up on the list...even though i'll go to CS or CZ right afterwards and join games perfectly... and when i try to start my own game just to see the map, it boots me outo of program and a msg display pops up, saying:

                " Engine Error: hl2.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x241694f6" referenced memory at "0x00c25d80". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program "

im not too computer savvy, and am really confused about what's going on. is this an aliasing problem?? oy

                thanks if you can help

                  --------------------------------------------------
                  ------------------------------

I have been fighting with Source since it came out struggling to get my machine to run it longer than 5 min without crashing to the desktop or locking up completly. (I have a Geforce 4 go)

I added this launch option under

Play Games> Right click Counter Strike Source Beta> properties > launch options

                  -dxlevel 70

Since then my game has ran smooth (fps from 80-40) the crashes are gone. It still looks better than the old CS and I am so glad it works. I realize you might be losing some features by giving this a try, but hey playing with a slightly better than old CS is better than no game or a game that crashes.

Note: This is a good base line to try in troubleshooting any problem with Source. If the problems go away you know it is somethign to do with your directX and perhaps card compatibilty. If not you know that the problem happens even in less intensive directx versions.
