    CS:S BETA Released

The Counter-Strike: Source BETA has been released for CS: Condition Zero owners and ATI voucher holders. CS-Nation has launched a BETA players guide so that CS fans know exactly what to expect when they boot up the game. Here is what's changed since the Cafe BETA:
      counter-strike: source beta

    • added new benchmark level

    • added command "net_start" to start networking without loading map

    • improved bullet penetration code

    • improved upper body player animation at low framerates

    • improved dedicated server behavior on level change

    • improved sniper scope zoom sound behavior

    • improved weapon sounds

    • improved weapon v_models

    • improved shadow behavior in de_dust tunnel

    • improved setmode antialiasing behavior in dx8

    • improved selected weapon sound behavior

    • addressed players flickering in de_dust tunnel

    • addressed sound stuttering behavior

    • addressed bomb target overlays flickering

    • increased blast impact on ragdolls

    • eliminated delay when someone can pick up a tossed weapon

    • updated de_dust
Be sure to load up Steam, check out our CS:S BETA guide, and frag away!

Can start the game due to a set mode error? You should disable any programs that try to enforce a refresh rate higher than 60hz at 1024x768.

Anyone know what the commands are now, for say, binding mouse2 to knife?

The CS:S beta would be very fun if the hit detection was atleast half decent, and if the netcode was good. Unless you're playing on LAN, I wouldn't bother buying CZ to play this. I do understand it's a beta and all, but hopefully in later releases it becomes somewhat comparable to CS netwise. If not, CS:S won't last long. I'm basing my findings off playing on T1 on high speed servers with only 6 or so people too.

If they fix the netcode, this game would be amazing.

Try going to your steamapps/*email*/ folder and delete your Counter Strike Source Beta folder, it should rebuild the folder from the gcf.

Same problem I am having! I first installed CSS on my laptop

AMD Mobile Athlon 64Bit Processor 3000+

              512RAM

              Radeon 9600 Mobile 64mb

              dx9.0b

So I tried it on my desktop, same problem!

              2800XP

              1GB Ram

              Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

              dx9.0c

Different versions of DX, still same problem.

you are an idiot and you lie. i played with the crack version before this and it ran beautiful on 30ms range. you are not playing on good servers if you get lag. i hate people like you who give a good game a bad name through your stupidity.

According to a few dudes in the CS:S thread on Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/redir_comments.x?id=33127), it might help if you delete the CS:S gcf and let it redownload. Keep an eye on the forums - this seems to be a recurring problem.

Don't load the game if you haven't fully downloaded it. If its fully pre-loaded, you should not see its name on the steam monitor. It also has to say 100% when you right click on the beta icon and go to properties.

                      the console is in options:keyboard:advanced

"r_3dsky 0" seems to give an fps boost.

the buy commands are "buy <value>" - type "buy" into the console and it will give you a list.

I made rZe-esque draw binds, if anyone needs them, I'll post them later.

If I could bind my mouse 2, to pull out the knife, I'd be complete =)

It's so depressing seeing let-down nerds.

Keep the faith and work out the bullshit so we can enjoy it without the problems (and for cheaper than you suckers).
