CS:S BETA Released

Boy, it still amazes me how childish a lot of this community is.



It's a motherfucking BETA, you nitwits. It's barely out of the Alpha stages. did you honestly expect it to be perfect or act perfect the first time out?



If it's not working for you, take it to someplace that can actually help you, or just wait till a more stable version is released.

man cs:s is awsome but im having some probs with the video card..so now i gotta buy a new one..anyone know the difference between the 9800 pro compared to just the 9800??

the only difference between a 9800pro and a 9800 (non-pro) is the clock speeds of the memory and core. 9800pro runs at a higher clock speed (MHz), obviously. Though as far as what the difference is, I'm not sure.



As far as CS:S goes tho... tbh I'm really disappointed with Valve. They say they've been doing their own internal testing of the Source engine for the past few months. Unless they lied to us and all their machines are using the exact same configurations... it really seems as if they did absolutely no testing what so ever. I mean, yes, I know it's a beta and all, and this is the reason it was released... but WHY are so many people getting simple memory addressing errors???



As far as I know none of the cafe's had any problems like this, so most likely it was something in the update that was also pushed last nite, with the release of CS:S...

Worked fine before the update tonight. Now to play I have to first delete modelsounds.cache from the beta/cstrike folder.



Otherwise I crash to desktop after about a second on the init screen with an Engine Error reading:

Invalid property: DT_BaseAnimating/m_flPoseParameter (array of datatables)



Once I get in though, it's a kick ass experience. Especially after getting some worthwhile servers up that have some great pings (compared to some of the earlier servers I played on).



Hear a large assortment of comments from other players. Some bad, a lot of good in terms of the new engine. Though it was curious, someone said "this game sucks, CS is better." ... It is CS, just on an awesome new engine. I really don't see how I'll be able to go back to CS1.6 after the Beta period ends, it just won't feel like it used to before CS: Source came along.

also if this has been adressed then im sorry...but when the BETA ends will there be a period where there will be no playable version of CS:S on steam(where valve will fix all the tweaks and then re-release the full finished product i would imagine with the release of HL2) or will the BETA players go directly from the BETA into the actual full release of Source when all the regular cs gamers will get to give it a spin???



..hope that makes sense..??..or does anyone even know?

I think the jerky movement online is due to the server's physics engine enforcing your position. It's a tradeoff of using physics online. I've seen it before in games like devastation.



CS is smooth because it's not doing any of that and can get away with a lot of client-side prediction. CSS can't because the server has to enforce reality on your client much more.



At least, that's how I understand it. FPS was lower than I expected for my radeon 9800 pro, getting 20-70fps range.

man my fps when i make a server is like 10 , my comp specs are

2.0 ghz p4

512 ddr ram

and i got the shitty "intel extreme graphics"

on normal cs i get fps around 50-70

help me boost my fps on CS:S

gungrave, there isnt really anything you can do about Intel Extreme Graphics, no hacked drivers or anything, youll just have to buy a gfxs card.



The rest of your system is fine, get a 9550 if your on a budget :o)

yeah i would buy a gfx card BUT its intergrated and that means that my shit motherboard doesnt have a AGP slot so i guess ill have to go and buy a new mother board and gfx card and doing all this is hard when your 15... ALSO whats better Geforce or Radeon



EDIT: is this gfx card worth buying "ASUS ATI 9200SE " beacuse i dont have much money or is a "GECUBE 128MB Radeon 9600XT-C3" much better cos all i can see is the fricken price difference ~ ~

Its the cards you want. Here is my list that should help.



- 9800 Pro or 9800 XT are about the speed you need for HL2. Any other card by ATI sucks and is slow.



- X800 is twice as fast, BUT OUTDATED. And it cost more. Really its a pile of flameing shit.



- GeForce 6800 GT or Ultra are the best cards out. Twice as fast as the 9800 XT and rapes the shit out of the x800 in NEWER games, its your best choice. Also the fact its cheaper then the x800.



It does take up 2 PCI slots for cooling, BUT SO WHAT?? Your NOT SUPPOSED TO USE the PCI slot belowe your AGP slot anyways so that more resources are available for the AGP slot, look it up if you dont belive me.



6800 has PX Shader 3.0, x800 still runs the old 2.0 like the 9800's etc. And thats just a start from the updates this card has.



WHY CARE ABOUT 3.0? Games that use it run increadibly FASTER on cards that have it. Games like DOOM3 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Painkiller.



Look up some benchmarks there so much better then the x800 in those games its sad.
