Boosting to Return

This is so ridiculous, boosting has been in CS since it started, yet I see one of you pub-nubs actually doing it maybe once a month. It's really only relevent to matchplay when there's teamwork involved.



It's not going to make a single difference. If I see another "I WISH I COULD TRY BOTH TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE" I'm going to freaking slam my nuts in a car door. There would be NO DIFFERENCE ON YOUR FREAKING DUST2 PUBLIC SERVER OK!?



These people complaing about these "JUMPING AWP BULLSHIT SHOTS" are the reason jumping and quickscoping we're takin out in the first place, and VALVe slowed the game down to turtle speed for these idiots.

Why.. do you keep posting? Every single post you make screams "IM A FUCKING IDIOT". Even if people DID get shot by a guy with an awp, firing in mid air, the jumping delays would have absolutely no relevence in this situation. Keep in mind the movement delay doesn't take affect until they hit the ground, so if an awper jumps and shoots you while he's in mid air, you're already dead and THEN he'll slow down.

Is it realistic for CTs and Ts to just magically appear, buy stuff from out of thin air, take multiple shots to the chest and still be able to run off just fine, all the while each person has a handy-dandy-radar somehow strapped to their body? No, it's not. Shut the fuck up.



Are we even talking about the same game? What do you think CS:S is? Because it's a port of CS 1.6 to the HL2 engine, give or take some small changes.

Assuming we can stand on overturned barrels, they're not very tall. I don't think there's a way for players to stand barrels and other objects back up. Plus, this would take forever.



And now I just have no idea what you're talking about.



I think people are saying that the jump-delay system has been changed a bit, to where you are slower or stop more often.. or something. But I don't think they'd even talk about jump-delays if it was exactly the same as 1.6.



What does it matter? If he hits you, you're screwed whether he can run away or not. If he's firing at someone else and you can't hit him while he's coming out and shooting, you don't deserve to hit him while he's running away.

The easiest way to solve the boosting problem is to make the bottom guy die when there are too many people on top of him. He gets squashed and he explodes into a healthy serving of blood and gore all the while the word "break" appears on the ground. The next guy up the rung who becomes the bottom guy will die next if he doesn't get out. If he wants to, he can topple the entire boost ladder and everyone dies except for him. That would solve everything.

Stop using that excuse... because it's absolutely true? Of course there are small changes, it's still the same game.

Speaking for the general public, seeing some guy balance ontop of another players head doesn't do much good for the suspension of belief they're trying to create-- which defeats the purpose of having the maps so alive and atmospheric.

The general public doesn't care if the game looks believably real or not. If I wanted extreme realism, I'd look around, or go outside. I'd kick my cat and be awed by the realistic physics.



Just because some elements are not realistic, doesn't make the others any less believable. I'd much rather play in a new source map than say.. iceworld? It gives you something pretty to look at and just feels cool to walk around in an enviroment that feels alive.

I say bring on the changes, let people atleast try them out before bad-mouthing them.

In some cases, that's true. But it doesn't take much for me to imagine what the game would be like without boosting, and realize I don't like it. It's not a big deal, but I'd just rather have the option, and jumping on people's heads is just fun.

And I have nothing against boosting, but I really hope they turn it into some kind of position or stance like prone, which would be cool to see as well.

That would depend on the surface, then. If you're standing on a very reflective floor, with reflective walls, then yea, it'd blind the shit out of you from behind. On dust though, which I'm assuming has.. dusty.. floor, the ground and walls in front of you would just light up, you wouldn't have trouble seeing, but you'd be deaf.

Just to throw my two cents in about the realism debate, I've always regarded CS as a "realism-based" game. Sure it's dumb to say that CS is 100% realistic, or even that it tries to be; but it's equally dumb to say that realism has no place at all in the game, as someone said earlier.



Clearly the game is at least based on realistic scenarios, weapons, and physics. We're not fighting aliens on foreign planets with 1/3 of the Earth's gravity here. Opinions vary on how realistic the game should be, but I think we can all agree that the realism has to be there to some extent.



We've seen Cliffe, Gooseman, and Valve walk the line between "fun" value and realism before, and it's a line they continue to walk. You can't please everyone, but overall they're doing a pretty good job of balancing the realistic with the unrealistic.

Right, realism definitely has a place in CS, but when people start pushing for extreme realism is when it gets stupid. Even small things like the guns not being mirrored right, who cares? If they fixed it, of course it wouldn't bug me but if they don't, I'm not going to say a word about it. Standing on a guy's head and jumping off isn't realistic, we know, but it's fun. Shooting through concrete walls isn't realistic either, but it's fun.



When the game is made to be atleast somewhat realistic, straying too far away from realism takes the fun out of the game. If they were to add a plasma gun or something, you know everyone would feel pretty lame about it, it'd be too cheesy.



And some people simply can't enter a discussion, so I just yell at them. If people are nice and respectful, I'll return the favor. When people come on whining and insulting others, I'm going to say something.
