That's probably the whole point. Is to fix as many bugs as they can before releasing it to the public (ATI/CZ owners)

Which I think is a great thing there doing.

Noleafclover199 - How could they be betas? You certainly don't know computers at all.

Do any of you think that this is called beta? (Fedora Core 2)

HL2 might not be 32bit. It can be converted into 64bit. Who knows.

            Converted to 64-bit?

Is there really an advantage to that?

I mean, you're pretty much calculating all the same numbers, only in bigger chunks...

              The answer is : Nope.

64bit have a high price tag, and therefore making HL-2 64bit is quite a waste of money. But then, if the price tag drops... *shivers*

apparently you don't calling Linux a beta OS, in which Linux and other unix flavors were the first to support these 64bit CPU's from Intel and AMD, eventhough 64bit chips have been around since the 70's. But can't wait for cs:s and hl2, both look amazing

WRONG!!!! Linux supports 64, convert HL2 to Linux, and then give it 64 bit support. Good times... But really I guess I'm the only one that used Linux as a OS for gaming and work lol.

Thank you, someone here knows there computer. I got a quad AMD Operon Server rack, Hows that for show and tell Running @ a datacenter owned by a friend right now. That would be awsome get some HL2 and Mod support of 64. Would own other games haha. Only other game that uses 64 currently is FarCry, but that has to be gotten through a disk . Or somewhere forget. But 64 bit rules. Gabe = fat lazy guy and can't get HL2 out, but can market stuff so he suckers us into stuff I'll believe him when I see and playing CS:S on my DESKTOP!
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

you cant run HL2 on linux! it's a win32 app which is direct 3d ONLY.. which means you can only run it on 32 bit WINDOWS.

the only advantage to 64 bit right now is for servers because they can handle a larger memory space (more clients are possible) and there can be some psuedo parallel processing.

there is currently no advantage to "porting" a 32 bit app to a 64 bit due to the fact that the larger memory space wont be utilized and your 3D card is still using 24 bit floats.

You'd be surprised how many developers make Linux ports of their games. And doesn't Lindows(and/or whatever that other Windows emulation software is called) support some games?

Yeah but i heard some games are unplayable using emulators. Doom3 is pretty dark and unplayable using a emu.

Hmm, lots of BS in this thread.

There are 64bit OS available, most of them are linux, but there is Windows Server 2003 and WindowsXP 64 is just around the corner - but either way, it is not a feasible platform for gaming, yet.

Valve did say they were integrating 64bit code as it was - pretty easy!!

Like Far Cry, Americas Army and thus Unreal Tournament, there is absolutely no point in them releasing a 64bit version.

Recent price adjustments have made the 64 cheaper than the XP tho, so we shall see, it is all down to Microsoft getting the release done, now that SP2 is all but out of the way it shouldn't take too long now.

theres a ligit version of D3-linux in the works, as sideline i think, i use Linux for some things but i cant live without my win32 box

if they did release HL2 and Steam on Linux i would have to say good bye to my Win32 box though
