CS: Source BETA Max Players

Valve's Jess Cliffe provides a little insight into how many players the Counter-Strike: Source BETA will allow in each server.

A couple people have emailed me asking about how many players the CS:S beta test will support. The answer is de_dust will support 20 vs 20, for a maxplayers of 40.

This statement also seems to confirm that de_dust will be a BETA test map. There is no official word however if more maps will be included in the BETA.

I doubt we'll see many 40 player servers, we don't even see a lot of 32 player servers now. Anything above 20 just tosses anything but DM fragfest out the window of course, but you haven't lived until you've played 20v20 on de_dust :O

You also have to realize this max players is probably on a map by map basis. When larger maps are created (and you know they will be), you'll probably start seeing servers with max players hitting 64, 128?, etc...



40 isn't too bad when you consider it's only 8 more than the current max total. And really, think about how few servers there are that are ever actually full with 32 players.

dude if they have a game wit max players hitting 128, jsut think of wat kinda of map that would be!!!!! its like putting afghanistan in CS . that would be fuckin crazy!!!!! but then again it wouldnt be CS. bu5t still that would be hella fuckin kool

you just proved my point... servers with tons of ppl sucks. if u dont see much 32 player servers, why would u see a 40 player server? more lag, more newbs, less fun.

Then don't play in them. It's that simple.



32 player servers aren't all that bad. There's little difference in terms of ping as that depends on your connection, unless you're playing in a horrible server (which could be your fault for joining one in the first place).



And it's not that you don't see many 32 player servers, you just don't see those 32 players full. Why? There's a multitude of other servers out there. With the BETA there won't be anywhere near the same selection to choose from and will probably see more "max player" servers out there.
