There doesn't have to be an offical date to be delayed. HL2 had maybe one offical date, and how many times was it delayed?

You are right about me not seeing the code for steam, but how does a company that codes leading edge 3D graphis/physics/AI not put together a simple "shell" program and instant messageing program?

    A. Valve was never a friend of mine

    B. If I'm not sure if my info is correct, i dont say it or i announce it might be false.

It's not that I don't like valve, I just don't like how companies are run. Enron! woot!
I do appreciate that you actually contributed to the conversation rather than flaming, but you are contradicting your initial points and missing out on a few.

Steam is not only a "shell" and instant messaging system, it is a content delivery system and manages all the servers within itself. It is one thing to code a game, it is a whole different thing to code a revolutionary method of deliverying/supporting games.

I never said there has to be an official date for it to be delayed, I have no idea where your grounds are for this one.

As for valve being your friend, that was for mere comparison purposes to my previous comment in that post.

This isn't really a "business" issue as a beta isn't being "sold". It is simply being distributed by choice of valve. I don't really see any reason to delve into how valve is run because we aren't actually there, and we don't actually know factually where and why they make certain decisions. We can only assume.

If you've ever looked at the Steam Status page, you'd know that 10k players is about an average high.
I know that its roughly 10,000. Ok lemme repost my post off of steams forums...that explains why they dont want this and why they're delaying.

        http://www.steampowered.com/forums/show...08#post874008

Pretty sure this is marketing ploy...I'm going to try and prove that this is. I took a pic of all currently playing players of CZ. Roughly 10,000. That tells us about atleast 10,000 people play CZ.

Now if that number doubles triples then that would prove that the delay was a scheme thought up by some guy in the marketing department.

With this scheme you could get more people buying CZ to play CS:S,because they know they have more time. Haveing 20,000 or 30,000 people testing beta is alot better for the company, because these people are potential buyers.

Having 15,000 players buying CS:S at the end of the beta phase is better than 5,000 dont you think so? Also, there is or may also be another reason.Having more people testing the beta will get more people finding bugs faster(if thats the case).

Now why dont they just give it to, and let the CS community test it...I'm sure they'll find all the bugs in a matter of minutes/hours/days whatever.

The point is they wouldnt be making any money from the CS owners. That is why!

Lets do some math say 1 copy of CZ is $30, and $10,000 people buy the game, how much do you get?$300,000.

Now lets delay the beta...and wait till we get another $10,0000 people from the CS community to buy CZ.Dont you get more money? Now this would make up for poor sales and maybe some other things.

Now you have 20,000 people testing the beta,I garuntee atleast half those people would buy CS:S or HL2. See this is a simple strat used by Valve to make some money.

Although I dont like this strat, I think its a good Idea...but aleast give an indepth explanation for delaying a game. Thats all I have to say,and I'm sure a few would be agreeing with me on this.

Like I have said before and will keep saying. Until I see it on my computer, and I'm playing it I will be WOWed, and congrate Valve... Working hard with them, means waiting about 4 years later... Doom 3 is owning CS:S and rest of HL1 and HL2 right now... I'm sorry guys, but until CS:S gets it butt into Beta and I'm impressed I can't say anything, but good luck, and hope to see it soon. I'm not pissed off at Valve, because they get enough of us emailing, mailing, and phoning them daily, why should they care anymore about us complaining, so there is no point...

ok above comment and stuff, don't want to quote it... But if Valve wanted to market CS:S, I think they could come up with a better way... They are "Working hard on it," And I am starting to lighten up on them, but still they need to get it out on time. They need to cut the crap and bullshit marketing plans, with CS:S, and not have it end up like HL2... I beat CS:S will come out when HL3 comes w00t w00t, won't ever hear the end of it...

I just love how everyone is saying things like "I HATE YOU VALVE" in relation to a free beta test. Quit whining that your free crap comes a bit late you shmucks.

they said they'd give us the beta test, though, and they're going back on their word. how can you call it free? I bought that shitty CZ so i could play it. That cost 40 bucks and there was no thought put into that game whatsoever. only CZ players can play this beta and trust me, everyone knew not to waste their time with CZ, but now that CSSB will be available to owners, people will buy it. If valve really cared, they'd give it to everyone. They would have also scrapped CZ a long time ago instead of trying to sell the POS. they squeeze all they can from the community.

They should care because we are the consumers. Without us, do you think Valve would be what they are today? But now they turned on us because of greed. Some Company/Consumer relationship.

I seriously don't even understand why valve even bothers to give us dates anymore. They are just trying to string us along and keep interest up, but it's just annoying. Years late on everything, hell, I still haven't even seen a screen shot, or heard a bullshit date for TF2 for years, and they still insist it's being developed. All i know right now is that Doom 3 is on my harddrive and it's alot of fun, I haven't even bothered with the multi-player yet, I have to wear out the single player experence first. I don't know if I'll even care anymore by the time they get HL2 in gamers hands.

. . . . How is the beta NOT free? You don't buy CZ for the beta, you buy CZ for CZ. The fact that you get CS:S is just a bonus. Sure, it was a clever marketing ploy to try and save their poor sales for CZ, but the truth remains: CS:S beta is FREE.

Now, whether or not CZ was worth it and all that is another debate, and I won't go there, but let me re-iterate the point that the CS:S beta is still FREE.

CS:S + FREE = STFU and stop whining

LOL. You think that because this stuff is delayed, it's going to be better? CZ took forever to make, was delayed tons, and sucked when it came out. Hopefully all of these delays are for good reason, but seriously, don't buy all their bullshit.

Remember HL2's original release date? this company doesn't deserve any of the respect it gets anymore. they don't take it seriously. i'm so pissed off about all of this.
