It's a good call to do this. Why? Because there will be no more split communities. Except for the CZ, and CS. And except for those who are stubborn and plays 1.5 on Steam.

BTW, WON was like a stepping stone. Steam is a milestone. They are going to stay there until they have it perfected. Then will perfected till another animal gets into the server and gets fried.

The community will still be split... We'll be playing other games, and you guys with have CS 1.6 and Steam.

good riddance to WON, 1.6 is way better than 1.5. And Day of Defeat is way better than both. But then there is all the new games coming out (halo2 hl2 doom3) and all the games that just game out, UT2k4, HaloCE.... People take counter-strike way too seriously now-a-days anyway.

I remember when WON was actually an online service for various games (similar to mplayer, gamespy arcade etc). Its time is long since past now though.

Steam cant die, aslong as Valves around Im sure steam will be too. The fact is instead of saying theres bugs and whining why dont you goto the Steam forums and list them - do something productive with your anger.

If this is the way Steam is supposed to be, I dont even want to use it. Its still plenty buggy, and as we saw yesterday vunerable to any kind of attack.
won had the same vulnerability and it happened fairly often.

I really dont think theyre closing down WON. I was playing earlier and didnt see any messages in the console about "upgrading" to Steam and WON shutting down.

Correct. I just love how these new people that didn't play on WON much thought it was so much better.

Ive been playing CS through WON for years and dont remember any problems that come close to the ones Steam has. I dont remember anyone else complaining constantly about WON either.

I remember WON going down a fair bit, not as much as Steam in its early days, but still the same amount that Steam goes down now. When Steam started it was new, and yes, buggy. Was anyone around when WON was just starting? Steam is just a much better idea, and lets us get constant updates and fixes.

GON was fun, because every so often their DNS would screw up and you had to change the names to IPs to connect.
