Don't waste your money on BFV, its way too laggy and last time I checked the average PC a CS gamer has is an Apple II. (judging from all the people in CS games that cant handle two smoke nades going at the same time.)

I beg to differ, Patch day is a problem. In the UK from the time it is released there is usualy a time frame of anything from 30mins to 3hrs of downtime.

Maybe in the UK, but patches are no problem for me at all here in Canada. I'll agree with you that it would be nice if Valve could get more servers up and running overseas.

Friends is problematic. I haven't had nearly as many problems as some have, though, and some of the problems I did have were on my end - my firewall was denying access to the ports. Friends isn't really Valve's priority now, let's hope that once they have more resources to devote to it, it will be fixed up to reach its potential.

Of course, it has its problems just like any other piece of software, but I for one am largely satisfied with it. I ran it without major problems on an AMD Duron 600, so you really don't need a high-end system like people claim.

I doubt CS will ever be pay to play. The reason Xbox CS players pay is due to the fact that microsoft provide a service by hosting the gaming servers for them to play on. Valve did announced plans to introduce an optional monthly payment system but those users would recieve extra content like new maps and models etc.

Steam is far from perfect but remember all the patches that have been introduced for 1.6 over it. 85% of these have improved the game or fixed bugs. Something which could not be done on the old WON system.

Well, I can't quite get over the fact about the guy who advertised 1.6 without steam and said the steam players are a minority.

Over 800 people downloaded this great (?) version of CS 1.6 (without steam).



I guess he is a 14 year old kid, maybe even younger, because his maths sure is terrible. But, at the age of 5 I could have told you that 1,332,693 > 800.



Nice maths. Not much to do then now I know I'm in a minority. I guess I'll go play on this thing called steam. Who here knows what it is? It must be a pretty small group if 800 is a majority.

Dude.... a P4 2GHZ comes with a FRICKEN DELL! A $400 AT THAT! I am running on a 2.1 GHZ P4, 256 MB RAM, and a GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 and I can play CS at a constant framerate. If you dont have at least a 1.5 GHZ, 256 MB RAM, and a Vidcard equal or better than mine, you should seriously consider an upgrade. THERE ARE MORE GAMES THAN CS! TRY FAR-CRY.

i used to run steam on p3 600 mghz 256mb pc133 and Intel Extreme integrated graphics.. at a pretty consistent frame rate.. 40-60 so it dont take anything serious to play counterstrike so if u cant play steam on ur comp u can either. a) Upgrade your computer b) Castrate yourself with a jagged rock.
