i dont really know what you mean by "organic" but ok.. yes, HL2 looks more realistic because it's in a realistic setting.
Meaning it looks more lifelike then an overdone "shiny", "plastic" effect that oozes off most everything in Doom 3. Organic = real, lifelike.
I wonder why they call it the "highest possible graphics settings." Maybe because it's optional and it gives the most visual experience at the cost of performance. If you turn off some of the graphics features then it will perform as good as HL2. AT LEAST THEY GAVE U THE OPTION.
Even the recommended specs are something quite high. I'm not saying they're beyond all realms of thought, but from a MARKETING stand point it seems like a terrible idea to make a game that not everyone can fully enjoy. PC Gamer even states that on the lower end systems it still looks good but plays noticably choppier. Frame rates are more important than graphical splender any day of the week, and if the lower spec computers can't play it smoothly what's the point?
i dont understand the logic here: this game is bad because I can't run it at the highest possible setting. Fuck, why dont u download doom I and run that at the highest possible settings. ..
Don't put words into my mouth. I never said the game was bad. In fact I think it will be a quite enjoyable single player game, but it's still absurd that the game will have such high requirements for what is essentially a retelling of a 10+ year old game.
    whatever floats your boat man.

and also, quantity is not quality... IMO id rather an intense 4 player game than a 32 player CS game in aztec which is just a frenzy to steal kills.
Enjoy your 4 player online gaming. The norm for multiplayer FPS games now is much, much higher than that, and what's holding it back? A good chunk rests on the fact that most systems don't have the power to handle anything higher then 4 player matches in Doom 3 while still maintaining a solid framerate. That's also shoddy work on Id's part to leave so much up to the mod community in terms of multiplayer.

Four player doom? Wow, that's really come a long way...from the four player action of Doom II.

        4 player co-op sounds fun

4 player DM doesn't sound as appealing in my opinion.

        Both games should be fun.

we aren't talking about normal games anymore..we are talking about doom. Sure, if ID wanted to create just an average game like everyone else i bet they could.

basically it's trade for # of players for framerate. it just might be that some people would like to play a slower, graphically more immersive game than a "norm" game with 32 players.

I cant really say it's going to be sweet, but dont say it sucks just because there are 4 players without actually playing it.

It's just Valve isn't run by a group of morons that push for everything to be super CPU/GPU intensive, and thusly allows for a wider audience to enjoy the game. Hell, even PC Gamer has stated they weren't able to run Doom 3 at the highest possible graphics settings because there was no widely available PC that could possibly handle it. That's some poor calls on Id's part there to not make the game more widely available to the masses.
            Right...

So John Carmack must be a moron because he pushes engines futher then anyone else has? I don't get your logic in this at all. He is designing games for the future, so that the Doom 3 engine will last for years. Are you saying that they should limit themselves, and not try to take things to the next level? If thats the case, then we'd all be playing pong.

By the way, he's not a moron, hes actually moon lights as a rocket scientist.

Howzabout you review the game after it comes out, even though your amazing preview was so informative...

Sorry for going off topic, but that annoyed me >exits topic<

I couldn't agree more. It's not id's fault for you not wanting to upgrade your computer. You're basing all your comments on a game that's not finished, yet. Zips, if your PC can't handle it, then don't buy it.

What the hell? How is that even relevant?

co-op isnt in the pc version, and the graphics on the xbox version are comparable to halo.

                another thing,

did anybody notice that the grill at the end of the river is removed. looks like you can run under there.

I said it's pathetic how it's only being shipped with 4 player, 5 map multiplayer. As if it was a horrible afterthought on Id's part.

Note: You can't play with ULTRA-HIGH quality in DooM 3 without a computer that doesn't exist yet.

The whole point is to have graphics that can still improve with time.

People, has Far Cry taught you anything yet?! I swear, you people remind of the guys who cry when they find they can't run it at FULL DETAIL.

Just because there's a "full detail" doesn't mean everything under "Full Detail" looks like crap, dammit all! Even with everything on "medium" settings, Far Cry looks awesome and runs like a dream. The same thing can be said for DooM 3.

DooM was never made for the purpose of multi-player. I'm pretty damned sure Quake 4 will handle that area pretty nicely.

For that matter, there are always the mods. (Seriously, who plays HLDM anymore?)

                            Hi!

                            1) I wonder how big (megabyte) the CS:S Beta will be? If you dont know it exactly, is it more or less than 500 mb?

                            2) Do you think it is possible that I (CZ Owner) can play the CS:S Beta within the next two weeks?

                            -Thanks, Andy

Bad that you can't really watch them in anything other than Windows.
