        Hell, even PC Gamer has stated they weren't able to run Doom 3 at the highest possible graphics settings because there was no widely available PC that could possibly handle it. That's some poor calls on Id's part there to not make the game more widely available to the masses.
        D3 system specs

        http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mp...eekly/2690450

        • A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500.

        • 384 megabytes of memory.

        • Two gigabytes of hard drive space.

        • An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Technologies 8500 or better.

        You can probably only run on these specs if you drop all of the gfx levels to their lowest settings. But these are comparable sys req's to that of minimum HL2 specs.
        Minimum Requirements for HL2

        * 1.2 GHz Processor

        * 256MB RAM

        * DirectX 7 level graphics card

        * Windows 2000/XP/ME/98

        * Mouse

        * Keyboard

        Preferred System

        * 2.4 GHz Processor

        * 512MB RAM

        * DirectX 9 level graphics card

        * Windows 2000/XP

        * Mouse

        * Keyboard
        I have P4 3.2 Northwood and an ATI 9800 XT with a gig of Kingston RAM, SATA drives, top of the line when I built this box last September (outdated now of course), and I ran the Doom3 beta with gfx fully pegged without any problems. Not sure if I beleive that PC gamer line...

          Yes, the minimum requirements will be quite low, that goes without saying. It's just the fact that to fully experience all of the graphical eyecandy in it, there are very very few systems that are out there currently that can handle it with any sort of respectable framerate.

          They talk of having a minimum of over a 3GHz computer, the latest graphics cards, over a GB of RAM, and of course cooling for the system out the ass. Problem is, a majority of the gaming community doesn't have that, and it just seems like a very poor judgement call from a marketing standpoint to release a product that very few people will be able to fully exerperience.

            Heh, I went to FileShack, and right when I clicked Get In Line. It said I was next for download..haha. Not even paying for there service..

              i think people need to chill on the specs. the wort case scenario is playing 800x600 with all the graphics turned down.

                  I think your retarded aswell, have you ever been shot with a deagle? Id much rather believe itd throw me feet in the air than Id just fall over like every other guy who gets shot with it.
                  Doom 3 has already reached gold status and is in the mastering phase and has been reviewed.

                  No I havent been shot by a desert eagle, but i dont think a little bullet can launch someone who is over 200 pounds a few feet.

                  maybe one day you can experiment with yourself to prove me wrong.

                  Yes. If you've ever played any sort of online game, more than 4 players is a must. This isn't a damn console game here, it's PC Doom 3 that only features a maximum of 4 players MP and only comes with 5 playable MP maps at release. That's flat out pathetic on their part.

                  Granted Doom 3 single player looks good, it doesn't look at good or as organic as HL2 does. D3 has more of a fake, plastic look to it all which just doesn't sit well with me. It should also be noted that everything that the Doom 3 engine can do (dynamic shadows, lighting, etc) so can Source, only not all of those features will be in HL2 at launch. It's just Valve isn't run by a group of morons that push for everything to be super CPU/GPU intensive, and thusly allows for a wider audience to enjoy the game. Hell, even PC Gamer has stated they weren't able to run Doom 3 at the highest possible graphics settings because there was no widely available PC that could possibly handle it. That's some poor calls on Id's part there to not make the game more widely available to the masses.
                  i dont really know what you mean by "organic" but ok.. yes, HL2 looks more realistic because it's in a realistic setting.

                  I wonder why they call it the "highest possible graphics settings." Maybe because it's optional and it gives the most visual experience at the cost of performance. If you turn off some of the graphics features then it will perform as good as HL2. AT LEAST THEY GAVE U THE OPTION.

                  i dont understand the logic here: this game is bad because I can't run it at the highest possible setting. Fuck, why dont u download doom I and run that at the highest possible settings. ..

                  whatever floats your boat man.

                  and also, quantity is not quality... IMO id rather an intense 4 player game than a 32 player CS game in aztec which is just a frenzy to steal kills.

                    doom 3 and HL2 are going to be fantastic

                    being fan boy's and wetting your pant's cos ppl are saying doom 3 or HL2 is better is stupid, enjoy them both.

                    ive played them both and they were great fun, the thing is the new doom 3 vid thats just been released of gold game state looks really really good

                    with zombie's flesh burning and turning into ash. I think tho the main prob that is gojng to happen with doom 3 the fact that i will love it to bit's but i will only be able to play it through once or twice before getting abit bored, as id have said its there to be modded and ready for ppl to take the 4 mplayer cap off, where as half life with have cs and i will whore it to the max

                    peace

                    try them both before flaming them and acting like kid's

                    wait you prolly are kid's bitch all you want

                            I'm not saying Doom 3 looks terrible, or even that I won't buy it and like it sometime down the road. All I'm saying is that id has failed to get me overly excited about the game. Sure it looks pretty, but it also looks pretty silly in places.

                            I'll reserve final judgement for the reviews.

                              You're right. Watch the video. Look at where his legs are and what is behind them. Surely, a gun that strong with a bullet to your upper body would knock you back. He can't back up though, cause theres a ledge at the back of his knees. So, he falls over it.

                              He means it looks more alive, more real. HL2 looks more realistic to ME because it seems more alive than Doom3.

                              I'm sure a 4 player game of Doom3 wouldn't get repetitive at all. Oh wait. No. It'd be like playing Goldeneye online, after playing CS for years online. I used to be able to play Goldeneye with friends for hours on end. If I played Goldeneye online now, with 3 other people, it wouldn't be that fun. I'd probably only play for an hour or so for the nastolgia factor.

                              4 player co-op mode? Again, it'll be easy to anticipate everything that's going to happen after playing the game through only once or twice. One of multiplayer's best qualities is its replay value. I doubt Doom3 will have much if any replay value.

                              But hey, atleast the servers will be cheap considering it's only 4 players.
