Does someone know if there coming any better quality sounds for the guns, 'coz if that is.. it's going to get nuts when the finished version comes out!!
Didn't you read the impressions page?
    from rizzuh's impressions...

Most weapon sounds are familiar enough to be recognizable, but are certainly much better quality.
    Yes, better sounds.

are there going to be any black player models or woman in anything different...like arab terrorists
That's why the good lord made Photoshop and Softimage XSI. Custom models, here we come. I'm sure, after all, that somebody is going to try to put Alyx Vance in CS:S. Well, then again, it'll probably just be as a nude hostage model, never mind.

I think it would be sweet to play HL1:S or OpF:S or BS:S then go to HL2, OP2, BS2, to get like the whole story line in niiiice graphics.
Glad I'm not the only one stoked about HL1:S and such. :)

Best I could do the machine is PCI
If you really want top of the line graphics, your only solution will be dropping a new motherboard in that system that has AGP 8x, assuming you don't go for the new PCI-express stuff.
    GameHopper wrote..

specularity and normal mapping can be visible from a screenshot. If the lighting aint right from the angle of the screen shot, then it's not implemented correctly.
You can sometimes see some aspects of it, but I still say wait until it comes out, and then we'll be able to see for sure. Nothing looked terribly amiss to me, and they're still finalizing the models.
    MikeJ wrote..

They took out the hud in Source because of performance issues I believe.
Yes, when playing CS:S, try to listen and keep in mind how many bullets you've fired so far, and how many you bought. It's too time-consuming for the advanced Source engine to display semi-transparent images on the screen, after all.
    entRo wrote..

When you use stopsound, you cut out all sounds, your opponent's sounds, your sounds, fish.. sounds, explosion sounds, everything.
Your opponent's next footstep will be present in a quarter of a second, where as the ambient sounds will be gone for good. Hardly a valid comparison.
    Combat-Wombat wrote..

Imagine players timing their movements to the sound of crickets or birds chirping in order to advance quickly while still remaining silent and undetected.
Well, this kind of stuff goes on in pubs as far as timing running with your unseen opponent's gunfire to try to approach more quickly while remaining unnoticed... but yeah, it'd be neat to do the same kind of stuff with ambient noise.
    HankPym wrote..

See what gets me about so many of these CS arguments is that people tend to hide behind the "skill" excuse when what they're really referring to is ways to make the game easier for them.
    So true.
    azz0r wrote..

I use "stopsound;room_type 0" simply because Ive heard the dogs bark a hundred times, Ive heard the TV rattle on a million times and I simply dont want to listen to it anymore.
With the old crappy sounds, that's understandable. I think we're all hoping that the new ambient sounds will be of sufficient length, quality, and variety, that we won't tire so quickly of them.

As far as room_type... that hasn't been an issue for me since everyone stopped playing cs_siege (not all that long after the APC was removed, but anyway). Dude, that reminds me... with Source we could possibly have an APC in siege that didn't get stuck in the lamp post.. Sweet. :)

cliffe mentions that now new maps will be more like real locations and not arenas

hes a fucking liar, most maps based in real locations like oilrig or thunder are getting fewer and fewer in number in favour of arenas with a visual theme; like dust or aztec and now iceworld ffs
The idea was that when moving around the map, it would seem more lifelike and less like you're in a box, partly due to the 3D skybox setup. It has nothing to do with what maps people choose to play. Lay off the Chocolate-Frosted Sugar-Bombs for breakfast, and engage your brain before you start calling people liars, eh?

Damn, I just bought a 9600xt... and I saw on the box hl2 preferred graphics... sh1t...

    ...

Will it be at least playable with average to good fps?
The 9600xt is still a fine card, you're just not going to crank your graphics all the way up at the max resolution. It'll definitely be playable, from what we've been told.
    David Johnston wrote..

Right, I'm gonna e-mail rizzuh right now and demand that any more screenshots for the site should show HUD, crosshair, wireframes, the HOM effect, list debug output, the console, display any file I/O writes, use software rendering and no textures, utilise bad phong shading and be taken at a resolution no greater than 320x200.

Only that way can we live in harmony.
We should start an online petition towards that noble end, but don't forget the FPS display so we can argue more about how many FPS is needed for it to be "smooth" in our opinion.

I just hope they fix the weapons ballistics...

One of the biggest gripes for me, is the ability for a 5.56 to go straight through a brick wall...

And concerning the shield. Can you guys remember the CS1.6 beta?

The only thing that didn't go through the shield was pistols (except the Deagle if I remember correctly)

So what happened in the development? They ruined the shield. If they had gone with the beta version, it would have been great.

For the life of me I can't decide if that would be a good thing or a bad thing. There was no experience quite like loading that APC up with CTs, driving it over the cliff, and having it merge with the cliff face like some sort of crazy science fiction movie, killing all aboard.

        Good times!

The FPS count will also need to generate a random number between 0.5 and 2.0 on startup, and multiply this by the measured rate, such that there's no consistency between runs, systems or even similar games...

I can't wait for CS:S, but how long will it take to download new maps from steam? And How many Megabytes is each map going to be?

Oh, and are they going to keep the same operah music in Italy?

i agree with you, especially after that leagues took out de aztec and then put in de clan mill, which really isnt a real location, looks more like a paintball arena....i also agree with cliffe is a liar, or at least in plenty of cases he doesnt tell the whole truth

I hope that Valve focus a little bit more the develop of CS.Scource to the esport scene. That´s the backbone of the game.

When I read which maps they convert untill now ( for example Havana, Piranesi and Chateau ) I´m note sure they do. No one play that maps on tournaments or online leagues. Maybe the CPL need to consult them.

inferno, train, nuke and prodigy need to be addet before launch.

                  New thoughts:
The skyboxes make the world seem endless... The maps feel as though they're part of a world, instead of some isolated cut-out made for a computer game.
Does this mean we might see a resurgence of de_vertigo, in a version that's not a box floating in mid-air? I sure hope so!
CS: Source will now show all of one's accessories on his or her player model.
I'm sure it's just wishful thinking that this feature (and it is a great feature) might extend to the kevlar vest and helmet? Yeah, that's what I thought...

                  Edit:

I fail to see how that is a true statement, and will probably never understand.

I believe that this game would be exactly where it is today, even if the so-called "e-sports" did not exist.

It would be very difficult to prove either one of us wrong on this issue, though...

Even if they keep the music in Italy just shoot the 'music box' and it's gone.

So to camp a bombsite like a fag, do you have to be positioned directly behind another camping teammate who is known to have the same gender as you?

Seriously, I may not be big into eSports at this point, but if you're going to try to defend your point of view, at least don't do so in such an immature manner.

No no no, I'm pretty sure he just meant that people who camp the bombsites look like giant cigarettes.

Or he's stupid enough to have to resort to homphobic comments to "prove" a point.

                            Question.

How is the smoke gonna act? Is it still going to bleed through walls and such?

And will you hurt someone if you hit them with FB, Smoke, or Frag?

                            Shield removed.

While it protected me from fire from front I still felt very exposed.

And it was about time something pissed off AWPers.

Has valve said anything about the least used item in the game?

                              The Nightvision Goggles

Like a change in price and more efficient use?

Is it even going to be in the game?
