    CS: Source Insight

E-Sports Entertainment Association has written an article concerning the apparent restriction of "boosting" (prominent tactic used by teams in competitive play).
Boosting is, and has always been, a huge part of CS; teams boost to get better positions in maps, to get places faster, and various other advantages, while pub players boost for fun. The removal of boosting is clearly something done for the realism aspect of the game, which I think most CS players can agree doesn't make it any more fun. CS has never been about realism, but about gameplay - so why is CS:S going to be different, if the 'feel' of the game isn't going to change? It seems to me that this is a massive, game-altering change in and of itself.
Along with the topic of boosting, the article also addresses the high level hardware specifications required for CS: Source. The article raises several good points, where you may read up on it right now.

Well that just gave me a new perspective.

This article might be in vain as
Somehow, I guess, there's a restriction on the so-called boosting. I tried to step on a barrel for at least 1 or 1 1/2 second but it was in vain.
isn't the clearest statement of the year.

E-Sports Entertainment Association has written an article concerning the apparent restriction of "boosting"
So...this isn't yet confirmed? Great, I'll love it if everyone gets their panties in a twist over something that might not even be true.

If it is true, I can foresee quite the uproar and cries of Valve "nubifying" the game. I'd be interested to see how significantly the gameplay would change.

It seems to me that Valve has been gradually phasing out the usefulness of certain types of boosting already. For example, you can no longer plant the bomb on top of the tall crates on de_cbble. In that context, this wouldn't be shocking news.

Edit: After reading the entire article, it seems to me to be nothing more than typical change-fearing, Valve-hating garbage.
I tried to step on a barrel for at least 1 or 1 1/2 second but it was in vain.
If this is one of the moveable objects under the new engine, it's quite possible that jumping on top of it would be quite difficult.
How can we accept a change that will knock out at least half of the community based on their hardware specs?
Apparently this guy hasn't been reading all the articles about the scalability of the engine, and it hasn't occured to him that the build of CS: Source previewed so far is incomplete and there are more than likely some bugs to be worked out. Furthermore, it's hardly fair to condemn a new game for requiring higher-end systems than its predecessors.
There's even more unbalancing for the cts on aztec now? Unless Valve has completely rebuilt aztec to be more fair and balanced, I don't see how APCs - unless totally stationary - can add anything good.
I don't know about anyone else, but not once did I get the impression from Nadamola's comments that they are driveable APCs. I'd say there's a 99.999% chance that they're just there for decoration.

In short, this guy looks like an idiot to me.

You know in real life, boosting is a tactic used by real counter terrorists.

I think the author of this article experienced his first time interpreting something written by someone who's native language is not English:
"two nice-looking APCs are added at the CT's spawn of de_aztec."

What? There's even more unbalancing for the cts on aztec now?
It's probably all just a misunderstanding.

I dont know, I only read about half the article before I decided to post that picture about boosting and how it is in fact realistic. Also, the reason it didnt run smooth on PC's with high end parts and x800's was because the game is far from incomplete. Source isnt even complete, and thats what CS:S is running on.

Most likely unmovable/decorative APC's. Like scenery.

Be forewarned, this is probably the first in a long, so very long, line of people that will bitch about CS: Source changes. So buckle up, we're going to be in for a ride of CS 1.4 proportions.

LOL what gets me is that this guy apparently thinks it would be possible to add driveable APCs to Aztec without radically changing the design.

I can see it now -- hop in, drive up the stairs, through the sets of double doors, which spring open thanks to the fabulous Source engine, then hang a left and it's down the ramp into the water.

                  This guy's a jackass.

I agree with spoonman, there is going to be much bitching about changes. However, I feel I can agree with most better teams and say that removing boosting isn't going to change our gameplay too much. Sure we do it every once and awhile but it's not something we have become dependant on, nor has it changed the outcome of a match, so I really don't care.

I also agree with Hank, the man who wrote this article looks like he wrote some pieces in sarcasm, or he is just that ignorant.

EDIT: I laugh at some of the comments on ESEA too, they act so emo and write that it is the end of Counter-strike and the game hasn't come out yet. Folks, the HL engine (Quake1) was great for a long time, but I recently got a new higher end computer and I have played games like Doom3 and Farcry, frankly I can't wait for an amazing looking Counter-strike. I'm sure the game will be optimized for more machines upon release, but I'm also assuming the Compaq Pentium 3 and Onboard video won't cut it anymore, get over it. Anyway I just thought it'd be funny to point out people condemning the game before even a demo was released.

I'd like to run some CS people over with an APC.

i agree he's not to bright. He acted as in boosting was like everything, and stated that it has always been a part of cs,not really no one boosted till recently.

This is one of the most uninformed ignorant things I've seen in a while. Here I was expecting some official thing from VALVe saying that boosting is no longer possible. Its just some dipshit afraid because he couldn't get on top of a barrel.

Correction, a dipshit writing about another guy who just couldn't get on a barrel, however the man trying to get on the barrel really can't tell if this is a permanent change or just a bug.

Boosting isnt realistic? I dont know about you guys but I remember when I was a kid, getting boosted over a fence. I mean the boosting in CS isnt realistic but it would be insanely hard to make an animation that would look decent and actually resemble a realistic type of boost. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
